Wanna Help Design The HOG SAR Knife ? ? ? ? . . .

I like the NARK blade on the DCH handle, no choil, straight spine, no serrations. ...Edited out this ambiguous (?) LOL

Sounds like a few of you are describing an Okuden Ammo Daddy to me.

Full flat ground A2 tool steel blade, not unlike the NARK, 3/16" thick and 5 5/8" long with black canvas micarta. Very tough blade, but not INFI.

I wouldnt want the serrations, mostly for a reason you previously mentioned. Battoning and splitting, The serration placement is right where I usually baton.

I agree with absolutely no serrations. I just put this "(?)" in there as a "what do you think?" to my whole interpretation ;) Now removed.

AND the Ammo Daddy is sweet. You are right about the handle geometry and blade in large part. I might go a little shorter on the blade for a companion knife and a little more meat in the "neck" or index area of the handle. I've been considering one of Brian's Sharp Things... smaller with the same geometry.

I have a Sharp Thing too. Even better than the Ammo Daddy, though Brian made it later on in his career. It's a great EDC, A2 is just a little rust prone, so I'd recommend the coating and not the bead blasted finish. I've had to get little rust spots off of it after just a day's worth of hunting on two different occassions.

Back on topic--I just want to see Boss Hog's SAR and revel in why it's cooler than what I'm suggesting! It'll be a while though...

Along the same line though... and the more I ponder (obsess over) this design, I would just like to see the current Badger blade on the DCH handle. That's all I want. This would fill a sweet spot between the Meaner Street and the SJTAC very nicely. The BATAC is between them now but is almost in the same league as the SJ. I think the HOG Muk fits nicely in there too

Edited to add... I know this name has been tossed out related to the NARK idea but I would call the Badger/DCH fusion design the SARC or SAR-C for Search and Rescue - Companion. Leave the door open for a larger SAR oriented blade like SAR-T for SAR Tool or whatever.

I know Jerry doesn't want drawings, but this is more to flesh out what I was talking about as far as BIBB modification. I may just order a custom like this. :D I am not suggesting the swoop run from the handle to the tip rather have it as it was, just make the spine straight in line from where it would have been before the spine was relieved.

You pros will pardon my chop job. I half arsed a little penetrator tip on her.

I would dig this blade on River8's handle though.

ned for not obeying a direct order from the Boss himself. What kind of mod are you?

We don't get many opportunities to bust your chops, PG. Sorry, but that was too easy.

I wasn't posting the pic for Jerry, I was posting it to elaborate to Dunner what I was talking about. :p :D The more I look at that, the more I want one like it though it would need to be satin finished with 3/4 height convex grind.

Go ahead and order me one of those while you're at it. I think it would be a great bush blade, SAR or not, that would be one heck of a hacker!

I say keep the swoop for a tip forward weight design, limbs would just pop off the tree at the sight of it. They may even march themselves into a little pile, sorted by size!

For a SAR tool designated to break windows cut lines etc, I would personally like a folder. For SERE, I would want a fixed blade with no serrations. The blade grind should be consistent to allow easy sharpening in any situation. What grind that would be sounds like you guys like the flat which looks like the ideal. If I remember correctly, you cannot bring double bladed knifes to some of the military SERE schools. For example, Gerber Silver Trident would be out of the question.

Jerry already made one of those:

My shot of it.

Oh wow  that is sweet!!! :D

I guess my idea wasn't so good then.

What about the ST-56 with a more modified blade shape overall. Not nearly like Progunner's model. But same handles with a broader blade and clip point.

Nuclear? I guess no serration. But, back serration might useful for a SAR.

what about a strap cutter? i know the blade is sharp enough, but i think that a small hook will be safer when cutting straps off somebody.

Man err I mean princess, you like ugly knives

.

SAR is indeed Search & Rescue :)

Could also be known as Train & Train & Train & Train & Train & Train & Search & Hopefully Rescue ;)

On handle material, a bright color like the Yellow G-10 (and our team color) is great if a knife is set down somewhere but EVERYONE seems to prefer Micarta for its feel and how it looks when customized with sanding.

I would lean toward Canvas Micarta. If there was a brighter colored LINEN that would be really nice.

Hey Dunner,

You and River-8 have some great ideas. I like the idea of a larger blade and a smaller companion blade. I've got something like that going now. A BATAC paired with a Swamp Warden. I find that the BATAC is to small for chopping and would pefer something more in the HHFSH range as a chopper. Unfortantly I can't find a HHFSH at a price I can afford.

Maybe based on the input Jerry will do two designs.
