 Ouch.

Thanxx, Volk! ...Yeah, that what I was afraid would happen to this one, but so far so good... I'm off to D/L a copy of Hijack This to see if it finds anything. Needless to say, I'm still a bit skittish after this and want to be sure that I got it all... If one can actually be sure after being, well violated, LOL

Glad your back up and running!
30 bucks at geek squad, sounds like a deal.
a free online scanner here is pretty good,
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/.

dont get all psycho about this,
spyware/virus etc happen to many people. its part of the times we live in.
backups of pic's,music etc on different drives or cd's
and your good to go.
I dont think I would go through all the hassle of reinstalling windows right now.,
If scans come up clean, and everything is working, dont bother.
just make sure you have
firewall
antivirus
malware/spyware/trojan protection installed, running and UP TO DATE.
Keeping your software up to date is a good reminder.

Welcome back! :D

No worries about me, m8 my windows and software runs fine, its the hardware thats giving me the problem. Most likely its the power supply which isn't that expensive. But its a 3 year old desk top with the motherboard thats reached its full potential. And I need a laptop, so I just neglected fixing it up till this point.

My philosophy, back up all your vital data, and then use common sense.

Don't get all psycho about this??? So... I should put down the FBMLE? ;) LOL, psycho was me Friday afternoon, pacing with FBMLE #27 in-hand, debating mentally on whether or not I really needed a computer... But then I realized that I wouldn't be able to post pix of the destruction that I had in mind!! (Think Office Space ) :D
I'll hold off on the urge to reformat & reload for now. :) Hey, I can't seem to find any notation on your recommendation for an anti malware (ect.) program. If you don't mind repeating...What did you recommend for this? Was it the pay version of Malwarebytes??:)

Running that online scanner now, thanxx for the link!

Zone alarm was one,
one v ersion of it has a built in spyware scanner.
for virus protection i use an old version Norton.
it is stripped down, very little system resources, but still
has all the latest virus definitions.
pm me your email

I think I'm going to subscribe to this thread, just in case something happens to my computer in the future.

Well, while we're at it on internet security, I did also try Secunia http://secunia.com to scan my programs for needed updates. It found 4, and within 10-15 minutes, I had all of them updated. I'm sure that there are other sites that do this too, but that one worked well for me.

made me nervous just reading this thread. I was using a payed service. My computer was giving me problems, and a geek friend told me to run a scan with ad-aware. found more threats on my old laptop than he had ever seen. I use AVG right now, with Spybot.

I am thinking of getting the paid version of AVG to give it a go.

I got a trojan from one of my friends emails, a couple years ago. Really wasted hours and hours of my time trying to fix it.

I didn't have time to read through this entire thread but wanted to offer some help. Forgive me if this has already been mentioned here! If you want to do a pc to pc file/folders, etc transfer you can try this tool called the Tornado. It's a USB to USB connector with the cable spooled up in the casing and allows your pcs to recognize on another as other drives. You just open the app that comes with it. I believe it auto loads once connected to your pcs then you can just drag and drop the files as needed.

Here's the link with description:
http://thetornado.com/backup_files.asp

Good luck man, I know what a pain these things can be!

BTW I've found it for a lot cheaper than the price advertised on this link. I've seen it for about $19 elsewhere. I just provided this link because it was the most in-depth explanation with pics that I could find.

Good to hear you're clean again Jaxx! :D

Two things: a) if anyone wants a good reliable free scan, www.kaspersky.com has a free scan test at the top of the page. Run it, and if its clean, they will tell you so. I've been running Kaspersky for 5 years now, and NO bugs at all. Gotta love those ex-KGB cyber crooks now that the USSR is a free economy! b) sometimes bugs like to hide in your DNS Cashe. Some anti-bug systems won't clean them out, you have to do it manually. I learned this the hard way when I was running Norton. To clean your DNS Cashe: Start>Run, type in ipconfig /flushdns and click OK. That's all there is to it. Runs automatically and takes less than a second.

Adobe's stuff is full of holes and they have had a lack-luster response to these issues. Only recently have they taken steps, but they are always late in the game. Kinda like Microsoft was 10 years ago...

Thanxx for the tips! DNS cache flushed. Unfortunately, Kaspersky's online scanner is currently being upgraded, so it's offline... but I did just complete a BitDefender scan. No detected viruses, but it did find 1 threat which was a suspicious file (link?) in Outlook on a received email from Travelocity...

So whether it was or wasn't, it's now gone too. :)

That may be true, but in this case, I'm to blame for not keeping it current. They did patch this latest vulnerability sometime last week, IIRC, but my copy was waaaay more out of date than that. :o

Oh... And for those waitin' to see what happens now as I dare to go back into my Photobucket account... Here's a couple images of some of my favorite recently acquired and/or modified Busse's!
