*Warning* Virus Alert ...For those who use Photobucket.

I hope they get this fixed! I have some I want to list, but am afraid to go to there site while this is going on:grumpy:

I don't know crap about PC's, and if my Norton 360 didn't stop it I wouldn't even know where to look to see if anything got through:o

Yesterday I had five or six IE pages open, including Photobucket. When I clicked to change pages in PB, there was an immediate threat warning from McAfee regarding a blocked Trojan attack. Shut them all down and ran a full scan, seems to be clean. I can't be certain if it came from PB, but it would be my leading suspect.

Is Photobucket doing anything about this?

Last I heard, they had forwarded my logs up the chain in the IT dept. It would really help them if you (and everyone else who notices this happening to them) sent them an email (support@photobucket.com) describing what happened, and what threat your AV/firewall blocked along with any other detail you have, like what time, when you noticed the warning, what Photobucket was doing (loading a page, etc.) BTW, that's when I got my alert too; while it was loading a page at 10am this morning. Only BF.com and PB were open in tabs on my 'puter and only PB was in use at the time. Malwarebytes came up clean, so it was blocked this time, whew!

I will submit to them another email myself with details on this morning's attack info... If enough people let 'em know with as much detail as possible, they might finally get a handle on it and clamp down.

New laptop with Windows 7 & MS Security Essentials running. So far everything trying to do harm has been stopped. MS Security Essentials is free and very effective and works for XP and up. Norton & McAffee I have nothing but issues with in the past.

Something to ponder if these things are getting past your existing protection...

as I bite my nails...I pray my new super computer with win 7 is ok.

I mean heck... its loaded with BING! IT has to be microsoft protected, right:)

Please say yes:D

Have received a reply from Photobucket. They have requested a screenshot of the page that triggers an alert each time it happens. Apparently they seem to think that it is related to one of the advertisements, so I'm guessing that they are trying to establish patterns between attacks and what ads are displayed for each event. If anyone else is sending emails too, please try to capture the screen that pops up an alert like so:

Photobucket_screenshot1-sm.jpg

...but in full size (I reduced the size on this one to post here). Please attach the image & send to support@photobucket.com with your report of attack. I just sent a larger copy of the image above and this one just happened at 10:05pm tonight. Again, it was a blocked attempt, thank God!

I think its on my computer cause I have had no problems that I am aware of...

but, that s coming from someone from GA...

So, I am probably screwed!

just a quick question, lots of folks on the forum seem to use photobucket, it was recommended to me at blade as well.
now, why does photobucket have to be used for the posting of pictures. (this is one of the reasons that you do not see pics from me on here and another is computer illiteracy) i am very fearful of photo websites, 4 pages of the above is, case in point.
why can one not use shutterfly, kodak picture website, sams photo site, etc?

There are other hosting sites and you can certainly use them. One of them, maybe Imageshack?, makes the viewer click through an ad before one gets to the image if you were to post a thumbnail here. So, don't post thumbnails.

As a Platinum member, you don't need a third party host. You can link directly from your stored pictures.

Thanks for reaching out, man! I may need your help learning how to slave one drive to another... Can you do this notebook to notebook or do I need access to a desktop? I believe my data is intact, so I'm thinking about getting a new notebook 'puter anyway since this one is getting older, but I need to retrieve the contents off this drive before anything else can be done to it..

I didn't click on anything, that much I knew to not do. :) Malwarebytes prompted a restart once it completed the scan & actions I initiated, and the rest is history, LOL

after you get a new notebook, take out the old one's hard-drive
and put it inside an external usb hard-drive cable then you can backup
all your old files

I tried to read all the posts and most of them offer good suggestions. I use Viper by Sunbelt. Recently they posted a good review of an online repair service. This service will scan your computer for problems, viruses, malware and corrupted windows files. They have a huge online database of all window files. They will scan, find the problems, then fix them for a fee. You can buy as many fixes as you have computers, I had 3 all with different problems, one the wireless card was not being recognized and the touchpad was non functional. Second one had boot up issues that forced me to hit F12 EVERY boot. Third computer would not load service pack 3. They fixed all three, I highly recommend the service. Note: My son is a graduate computer engineer and is a certified geek in almost every field of computers and he could not fix the issues.

Here is the link, if anyone is having problems but you do have internet access.

here is a link to cureit which is a good scanner that will remove most trojans or other bad stuff. this is a direct download that i use weekly to download the latest version. it has fixed several members computers without having to download numerous other programs. i would still run spybot or ad aware along with cureit. the icon looks like a spider when downloaded. just save it to your desktop. thoes of you with norton should get rid of it and get avast which is free. it is a lot better and not a memory hog like norton which will slow down your pc. ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/cureit.exe

Thanks for the information, everyone.

Norton blocked Trojan.Pidief.G for me last night while I was looking in my photobucket account and last night and this morning, the computer would go into its rest mode, but not wake up until the eighth holding down of the power button to turn it off and then back on.

Off to use many of the suggestions listed here.

to give an update. I am mostly back up and running. it seems all of my bookmarks are gone and one of them had a promising job listing. back to the drawling board on that. Does anyone have a link to a freeware dvd decoder? wmp is not liking any dvds.

until I hear differently I will not be going back to photobucket which is a shame as it has been a valued resource for several years.
