I recently trade with another Formite. I shipped him two used Spydercos. One is the worker, the Other the Hunter. Both are in very good condition. I asked him to look them over and ship back a Multi-tool in the FAIR-RANGE
I just got a Gerber with no box or sheath that sells for $39.99 at full Retail. This model can be had for under $35.00 Brand new. I have sent a few E-mails and got back a: "I do not understand" message. now I am getting NO RESPONSE. Was this a "Fair-Trade" or did I get screwed?....Thanks....wolf

Doesn't sound like anything I would have traded two Spydies for personally. I think at a minimum I would have found out what he was going to ship before he shipped it and worked something out to mutual satisfaction before hand.

As it stands, he should at least be willing to work with you as things are now. I have found that if you wish to be successful in trading or selling on the Forums it is not a done deal until both parties are satisfied. Here's hoping you hear back from him and things work out.

Wolfmann601,

I think you just made a trip to "Burn City".

Hope you can cut a better deal with this dude.

Cheers,
Gord.

You're putting yourself in a bad position letting someone else decide what is a "fair trade". Best to come to terms first, then trade. And always state that you want an inspection period, for both parties' sake.
I don't think it's for anyone else to say whether it's good or bad. That's between you and the other guy. As has been said, though, it's not a done deal unless you're both satisfied. I'd ask for my knives back, and return the multitool, if I wasn't happy.
Assuming this has just occurred, and you contacted him within a reasonable time (most people state a 3 day inspection period-I do a week, sometimes), the other party shouldn't have a problem with that, and if he does, well, that is what this forum is for.

Ira, sometimes your trust in others that they will be stand up guys like you are, amazes me. It is my opinion that you have not received fair value for your knives. Hopefully you will be able to work this out. If not, let us know who this forumite is. If he is reading this maybe he will show the courtesy to come here and explain his side of the story.

Edited because I forgot a word.

Wow Wolf...Sounds like you really have a problem....
Are you sure you got an, "I don't understand email"
Sure it was not an, "I am astounded...What do you want to be satisfied?" email...

Are you sure you got " No Response"...Maybe you really got a prompt response to all your troll like emails....Even the one where you threatened a "Flame War" because you found a cheaper price at your "LE" distributor...

Are you sure the "forumite" did not offer you your choice of new and unused multi-tools, by model, and you had no prefrence...
Are you sure the "forumite" did not ask "What do you want to be satisfied?", in response to your child like email...

Maybe the "ripoff" goes by "NRA" standards on descriptions...not everyone does, but maybe he does...
If he expected "very good" and got a "broken tip" on one blade, he might think "You" are the "Ripoff"...
But it might not be worth a "Flame War" to him to whine about it...
Especially if he had already sent, by priority mail, the multi-toll...
Maybe you should look up "NRA" standard "Very Good"...It applies to firearms and edged weapons...Was you description accurate?

Maybe he took you at your word, if you said, " A deal is a deal, Thanks", in response to his email asking, "What do you want to be satisfied?"...And then reading your post above...He might have been really surprised to see you TROLLING here to find someone to agree with you...

I would urge anyone who is interested, to do a search and decide for themselves who here is displaying TROLL LIKE behavior...

If this "Ripoff" aksed what you wanted to be satisfied, and you responded with a "Deal's a deal, I guess, Thanks" email, and then "went a trolling in the GB&U"...He very well may not respond to you in the future...He may be one of those guy's that tries to ALWAYS do what's right, until he understands he is dealing with a slug...
That would be my response...:)...Jared...out.

OwenM mirroed my thoughts on the matter very nicely, FWIW.

Specificity is very important in a trade.

Jared,
I did not identify you. I TRUSTED you to engage in a fair trade.
I have done nothing "trollish", I offered you a chance to explain how you arrived at a value of approx $17.00. I only asked for a multi-Tool in the FAIR-RANGE
A Gerber cheapy is not in the fair range. I expected a good-faith trade. I have all the e-mails. you sid "Leatherman" and I said "I don't care Jared, you place a FAIR VALUE on the knives and send a multi-tool in return.
Also, here is a photo, what tip is broken? How about answering my E-mail so I can return thios gerber and get my "junk" back........Ira

I send you an E-mail to PREVENT a Flame-war. you never sent me anything that suggested you wanted to make this right.

Post my "child-like" E-mails youngster. If those two spydercos were were a $39.99 Retail with Sheath to you, then you got a super-deal. The only E-mail I got from you is "I do not Understand". My response was: "Let us deal with this via E-mail" before it turns into a flame war. You saw fit to light the match, now I will ship you back this gerber Tuesday, and I will include my address. you ship back the spydercos and point out the broken tip?????

A deal is a deal huh Jared? just gotta learn to stop being so damn trusting.............my bad

Still, both are clearly worth more than 20 bucks each. I put my trust in a kid.....My bad.............wolf:(

PS: I see you took me off your "good list" I am the Troll? you have six posts on BF that are NOT in the knife exchange. You KNEW exactly what you did.......again.......my bad

Jared:
I just checked all the mail. This was supposed to be a FAIR Trade. Do you honestly and sincerely believe the pair is worth only 20 bucks each? If that is your position, then so be it, but both knives are users in very good condition and would have easily brought a minimum of $25.00 a piece if I wanted to jsut dump them. I was expecting a little better than the basic gerber at $39.99 Retail with a sheath. I can pick it up thru my LE distributor at $30. I ask you to reconsider your thinking here, re-evaluate what I meant by a "Fair-Trade" or lets do something on the Hornet and make it up to me. This deal is just not FAIR

Please answer me and lets just talk this out. I do not want a flame war, just an honest answer to whether you would be happy in my shoes with this trade. It just is not FAIR...
Ira

I would like to see all the emails, from both sides, to see for myself just how this situation developed...

If you both have copies of the emails then there is no point in not posting them directly, as opposed to insuating and indirectly quoting what was sent..

There are two very different stories here, and it surely looks like someone is outright lying, and I would really like to know just which person it is, so I can avoid dealing with them in the future, whichever person it happens to be.

In my opinion the best thing that could happen here is that the two of you find a way to settle this problem without bringing everything to this forum. Work it out privately, let us know how things went, and I will have a lot of respect for both of you. Maybe the best thing to do would be to have both parties send back the knives they received and just think of it as a trade that didn't work out.

Jared, if you still have both knives this should not be a problem for you if you really think the knife you sent Ira is a fair trade for the ones you received. I know it is not, but it should be a rule of trading here that both parties must be happy with the trade before it can be considered complete.

I sure hope that this can be worked out before it blows up into something much bigger than it has to be.

"I send you an E-mail to PREVENT a Flame-war. you never sent me anything that suggested you wanted to make this right."

That is a quote from Wolfmann from above...He has repeated this a few times...
I have tried to post a copy of the email and as a basic member, I do not have access...
I will forward a copy of the email to a member and ask it be posted...
Or Wolfmann could post it...

When posted it will read...

"Hi Wolf...Just got your email...I am astounded...What do you want to be satisfied?"

This was my response to several emails...One more disorganized than the last...The last, in direct response to my, "What do you want to be satisfied?"...ended,..."A deal is a deal, Thanks, Ira"
Next thing I saw was the "No response, I don't understand" bull above...

Wolfmann...You are not only a troll, you are a liar as well...

SUNSHINE LAD! Be sure you "played with a full deck" before you call this guy a liar. We all know him but not too sure about you!

Knifeman LAD  ...Maybe you should do a search before you speak...

I will not involve anyone is this BS...If a moderator wants to moderate, I will be happy to email him the Email that Wolf says does not exist, to be posted...

If a man lies, is he not a liar?

Looks like this deal was doomed from the start. Maybe it should just be written off to poor planning from the begining?---Kevin

even before I got down to his post. And I can't believe how quick you people are to jump all over the "mystery" trader after hearing just one side of the story.

And you have no cause for complaining wolf. You freely decided to accept his opinion of value. So, uh, live with it.

SOunds like the two Spydies should have been good for a Wave or at least one of the larger tools in good condition. Try to resolve it via e-mail though gentlemen. We've all seen how ugly this stuff can get. If it can't be worked out the best thing to do is to return each other's property via priority mail and call it a draw.:)

At this point, posting emails doesnt serve any purpose. Anyone can create fake emails.
I know Ira and believe him to be a good man.
I dont know Sunshine but dont remember ever reading anything negative about him before so at this point have to believe he is ok too.
Why dont you guys just return each others property and chalk it up to experience like has been suggested.

I strongly suggest that anytime you make a trade on these forums that you both agree first that the deal isnt done till both say they're happy. The worst that can happen is you're out a few bucks for shipping.
Just my .02.

Dave
