Watch for me on Forged in Fire...

Congratulations on the win! A tough assignment and tough competition, and you nailed it. Tonasket rocks!

Enjoyed that episode and learned that when forging steel cable weld both ends together first .

Salem , glad you were able to get your first blade quenched just in time , that was close . Beautiful work on the kopesh, that is a nasty effective weapon .

The cattle bone test was over the top , that is axe work .

Yeah, the bone chop was no joke. We were getting hit by shards of it, and it was loud too. The khopesh is directly descended from a mesopotamian weapon called the "epsilon axe" so we built them to chop.

Thanks for the congrats, all!

Just finished watching the recorded show. Congratulations Salem. Such fine work. Your skills, experience, and style shined/shone through. That last piece was truely a functional work of art the fact that you chose to step it up with your own Damascus and add those fullers was pretty incredible. Thrilled to see you standing there at the end. Mike

How and when did you temper the first knife?

Hoss

From talking with a previous contestant; the blades have to be quenched by the end of the three hours, but then temper is handled over night between segments. My understanding was that the makers had nothing to do with the tempering.

I know it's TV but you fitted a guard and handle in 3 hours? You were the first person that I can recall, that was able to pull that off and actually make it look good. I actually said good job Salem out loud when I saw you put the blade in acid to bring out the cable. I fell asleep when you guys went to your own shops so congrats on the W! However I knew you were going to win when they showed commentary from the other 2 smiths, but not you, in that round of eliminations.

I haven't seen the show (yet)... but congratulations. Tonasket, represent!
