I should probably clear something up :)

As far as I know, De Asis does not have a son named Fransisco . . . :)

Well, if it was supposed to be a big secret, then I believe BM should not have said anything about it to people who called. Also, why would BM make a secret out of it, but start taking orders on Tuesday?

This is a lot more fun anyway, to my notion! Hell, we still don't know what the damn thing looks like! Don't get your shorts all in a knot yet...... If it turns out to be a fixed blade then hollar to the high heavens!!! "You can only believe half of what you see and none of what you hear", or in this case what you read. It's something that has created interest and that's what I'm here for- something interesting!!! We'll ALL know in good time.........

Damn applied Psycology...

It's all comming back to me now...

I still don't know if this is just a VERY limited production run, or is the Legendary Benchmade Custom Shoppe back in buisiness?

yep damn psyches.. look how many peple were busting at the seams and callign up BM like teens in a boy band concert :p as for the custom shop - money talks it depends on how the public receives it mon ami :)

well they've released the info. Gollnick (bastard ;)) is going to be taking and posting pictures on monday.

Basically all the info here is correct.

ARGH. I was hoping for an affordable kris :p

......is all I can say now..

"Hunters seek what they [WANT].., Seekers hunt what they [NEED]"

It's after 6:00PM here in the flatlands of Kansas; the sun is sinking fast......What I thought was the Aurora Borealis to the northwest of here was, in fact, the illumination from flashbulbs and strobe lights at the Gollnick Studio of Advanced Bali-Song Photography. I can almost hear the sounds of the flash, as they're triggered, and the smell of the ozone in the air from the electricity being generated by the 'Les DeAsis Special'..............And remember Chuck, if we see any swirl marks on the blade, we'll all know you been playing with it........and the knife, too!!!!!
;) :p :D

First... Chuck, nice picture.
Second, WOW! I think the style is dramatically different from the BM's of the past. Very nice. The well defined wood grain on steel is quite a nice juxta pose. But, there is something peculiar about the undulations of the blade... can't quite pin-point it. I think the first couple of undulations don't quite follow the center line, and that is throwing me off.:)

"I think the first couple of undulations don't quite follow the center line, and that is throwing me off."

Actually the curves follow the center line with great precision, not sure what you are seeing there Penguin.

But how did they Hollow Grind the blade?

Well, was it hand ground or was it made through a machining process? After all, it is an american Kris and we try to make things easier quite often. Could it be CNC'd?

I think you'll find that this is THE FIRST EVER HOLLOW GROUND KRIS! Done on CNC production equipment that would grind a dozen 'regular' blades in the time it took to grind that "American Kris"; there's a bunch of the $$$$'s towards that final retail figure......... I've got to edit this to thank Chuck for the great job of photography, as usual, and for helping with his input into this BM project; I'm sure Chuck had a hand in it, to say the least (;) pun intended). Thanks to all at BM for there efforts and the stalwart's on the BM forum, like our very own Professor, who I'm sure was right in there with Chuck and the rest of the BM Team. All of you 'did good'!!! :D:D:D

Well, I can honestly say I liked the old Custom Kris better for many reasons. First, I don't really like the wood inset like that, it looks too skinny for my tastes. Second, I like a thick blade and this one is, well, not. But the biggest reason I wouldn't buy one is the price they are charging for a piece that isn't hand ground anymore.

There is something special knowing that somone took the time to hand grind a blade. IMO A machined blade just seems a bit too impersonal for a knife with such a price tag. The hollow grind may be nice, but its not worth losing the personal touches of a human craftsman.

According to the Jeff Imada's Advanced Balisong Manual, the old PC custom 4" Kris with milled stainless handles with ivory scrimshaw went for $500. That was for a very personalized knife with a thick hand ground blade. Personally, I'd rather take the $800 for the 49-spl and find an old PC Custom Kris in good shape.

Will the next batch sell? Hell yeah, it's a BM Kris and it's a change from the normal. Many people will be hot for this knife, I am just not one of them. If they do re-open the custom shop and I find they would hand-grind blades, then I may start selling off body parts.

I truly don't believe you could find a decent one for that kind of money even if you had cash-in-hand.................
