Watches and Hinderers

AZ classy picture, I like my Hamilton, nice look and durable as well. Goes well for EDC with a Hinderer in your pocket.

I've never really looked at Hamilton watches. But they actually look really nice - I've read some great reviews. I'm really digging the Titanium Auto.

Note to self - must not touch Hinderer fund. :o

A very true motto to live by! I've found myself saving up a decent chunk of money and think "hmm, I'm halfway to a Hinderer, might as well just save it for a XM!" But then find that I could get a few scales and/or XM accessories that I've wanted for a while for the money I've got saved. Must not touch!

Those Hamiltons are nice looking watches, I wasn't familiar with them previously.

So I'm curious with this crowd- NATO straps or steel bracelets? Several times I've tried to warm to NATOs since they make so much sense for me (crazy durable, plus I'm a lefty who wears his watch on the dominate wrist so the extra security and lack of mobility on the watch is a plus), but I've had a hard time warming to them. I'm trying to decide if I want to give them another go, or just resign myself to bracelets.

I'll give you the military answer - it depends ;)

Depends on what I'm doing, my mood, what I'm wearing, the style/look of the watch itself, etc. I tend to personally prefer the utilitarian/organic look of NATO and natural straps (rough/broken-in leather or canvas/heavy cloth). However, some situations call for something more formal - in which case I much prefer a nice metal bracelet (brushed steel or Ti finish is my preference over polished) instead of a glossy leather one.

Then again, at work 99% of the time I grab my Suunto with it's rubber strap so I don't beat the crap out of it on our equipment. I have a nice Ti Breitling that I used to wear on the jet all the time since it was an "aviator's" watch. I quickly beat the crap outta the band and a little of the face.. Plus, it's easier to time hack the digital - but I digress ;)

That's remarkably similar to the law school answer. Week one you read the book "Getting to Maybe." ;)

I switched out my bands tonight and decided to try the NATO again. It really does have a better ease of use for me, but I don't really think it looks better (especially with my cowboy hat). I want to give it another go and try to dedicate excess funds to more fun projects.

You guys have me looking very seriously at the Hamiltons as a no-worries everyday(ish) timepiece. On the Ti one; I image searched...it looks that they/some say "TITANIUM" on the side in high-vis....huge turn off.

Wear both! NATO and Zulu straps can look great on a watch, and get better with age. Plus they are cheap and easy to change out. I buy mine from clockworksynergy on the bay, and they are amazing quality. People forget, the first Bond Rolex was worn on a Nato strap...

Also, forgot to mention, a lot depends on the bracelet. If it is a nice quality bracelet that balances well with the watch head, and fits the wrist well, then great, but a lot of bracelets miss the mark, and make the watch much better for strap wear.

Those are some very nice timepieces you have there, brother. One day I'll own a Rolex! One day....

The bracelet that comes on ceramic submariners is secure and very comfortable. I wear out leather but doubt I'll wear this out.

I wear my Omega as my "everday" watch no matter what I'm doing which I suppose some might say is crazy, to wear a watch of that value spiltting wood or running equipment etc.
I just wear it. I figure that's why I bought it, if I only wore stuff when I got dressed up - I'd never wear anything.
I never get dressed up.

Right on!

I did this with my Tag and it held up for years! Did this w/ my Oris and it didn't last but a short few months.

Thanks man! Phone cameras can do pretty cool things these days. Plus, a little knowledge of composition goes a long way.

That's my situation too! I never get dressed up.

I'm sort of in the same boat as Rubi- not only do I never really vary what I wear/carry I actively try to avoid variance. I tried to wear a NATO again the last few days (they look cool, you can change colors easily, they secure so nicely), but it never felt as nice on my wrist. I'll be honest, that submariner on the steel bracelet didn't help the cause either. I'm back to the stock steel and at least learned that in future watch shopping I should mind the bracelet!
