Watches and Hinderers

I do! Unfortunately it's sill making it's way through the postal system.

Pictures with my xm when it arrives!

Edited to add: BWilson that is an incredible photo!

Darn postal services...

Anyway, I'm very interested in hearing user thoughts on these...found a few blogs and web stuff but..

Glad you got your wharnie in!! Great pic with your Rolex :)

Thank you :) ive had that watch for a little over ten years. Im actually going to send it in for service soon since ive never had it serviced before. Only thing that sucks is that i dont own another watch while its gone. Can any of you suggest a similar looking watch, but not a rolex. A lower budget watch while I wait for the Rolex to be serviced. Thanks.

It seems like a great watch! I can't take a decent picture though, so damn shiny!

I'm listing this one for sale because it's a little too small for my wrist but I definitely see another Ball in my future!

I like the idea of a tritium watch and Ball seems to be one of the few brands that makes them without being too big for me (Deep Blue!) or looking uber tacticool.

Are you sending back to Rolex or using and independent for service? The reason that I ask is that Rolex will rape you on the service and sometimes make you get a new dial, hands, bezel insert, crystal, etc. If you are happy with the watch, but it is not keeping good time, I would recommend finding an independent watchmaker and have them service it for you. You will save a bundle, and they will replace the casetube and necessary gaskets, clean, polish and time...good as new. Usually their turnaround time is a couple of weeks.

If you are looking for another watch, I would see what is on Craigslist locally...never know what you will find.

Thanks bro. Yeah there is a certified Rolex repair shop like 30 minutes from me so I may take it there. It still holds great time. I just notice that when I take it off it will stop a lot faster than it use to. Plus the band needs a little polishing since I wear it everyday no matter what im doing lol.

Your power reserve is down, which means that the movement is drying out. No big deal, I had a Rolex once that had not been cleaned in 40 years and it still ran like a top. When you take it to get serviced, make sure he just puts new gaskets and a case tube. As far polishing, you want to make sure that they do no polish too much, and that they retain the brushed finish on top of the case lugs and bracelet links. Honestly, I would service it when it starts to lose time, but that is just me, as I never service my Rolex...I am a terrible collector...

Watchnut, after reading your posts dealing with Rolexes and the fine points of service, I am totally impressed with the passion and knowledge that you posses for these timeless pieces.

Thank you sir for the fine words. I started collecting when I was 7, and my dad bought me my first Rolex in 1987 for $200, a 1942 Rolex Army, that came directly from the original owner, and apparently sailed the seven seas. I really amped up my collecting/dealing in college in the late 1990's when ebay was just getting started, and bought and sold a world of watches. I have been pretty lucky with watches, but also have spent countless hours researching and learning, and have watched the market religiously over the past 18 years. If I can help people out with my experience, I am more than happy to do so, as watches are incredibly satisfying, but rather daunting do to the size of the investment and all of the factors that go into knowing whether a watch is a solid deal.

The offer is always open to anyone seeking advice on getting into watches, whether you want to spend $100 or $100,000, you have to approach your purchase in the same manner, as they are investments.

Awesome offer to share the knowledge. I stay away from used watches (and very often many things) because of my ignorance of previously owned items and understandable apprehension to grey market items and unscrupulous sellers.

Notice I said my ignorance to it, not that the deals from peer to peer are a bad thing.

Well you better buy two. I couldn't imagine being without one of those if I lost it. Always good to have a backup.
