that would be nice if it did. I wish they had it on my new lg starbenza that's coming today or tomorrow . Maybe they can hide it under clip a little like the xm.that way people don't have to cry how its an uglly eye sore. I still say its an improvement and looks fine to me

Nope so I don't know why you are getting so offended .unless you feel like you were being whiney or are a guy that treats his knives like jewelry. Any hoo, I took no offence personally. I very much like the Umnumzaan and we can all talk about weather it needs the new lock stop or not for the rest of the week it won't change a thing. I actually don't mind having a lock stop on the knife at all. It looks fine and works as designed on the ZT, Hinderer and Strider knives so it will do the same on the Umnumzaan. I'm still not sure about the placing or look of the lock stop on the Umnumzaan pictured though, I know it stands out alot more on the star textured handle as well. I am an engineer by education and I am very much of the opinion that simpler is better. The less parts, materials and embellishing a knife has the better as far as I'm concerned. That's why I first started carrying and using Chris Reeve knives and will continue to do so.

As much as I like the Umnum, I immediately compared it to my Hinderer and SnG based on "hard-use" qualities, looking for what I considered "weaknesses". IMO, the two issues I felt it had was a weaker tip(remedied by the TNK tanto version) and the springy lock-bar that is now aided by the stabilizer. If it serves a purpose, I'm good with the change.
If this is a prototype, perhaps Mr. Reeve could look into some sort of tab or lobe that extends from the pivot screw, or a slightly larger pivot screw face on the lock side that extends over the lock bar, effectively becoming a stabilizer.

I really don't mind the concept so much, just the flathead look of the thing. It looks like someone drove a 8P nail through the knife. As a machinist and artisan, I think that Chris can do a little better. Maybe scribe "Idaho Made" on it and get that lettering off the handle slabs.

Since the ceramic ball sticks out of the lock-bar I feel like they could make the gap between the top of the lockbar and the handle smaller and mill a recess into the handle so that the ball would hit the handle before it was over extended. It would be unnoticeable unless you were actually looking for it

yeah thought about it a little more .I get it, kinda like how bm puts a hump on some of their lock bars to prevent over extension in I.e. top of lock bars on 755 and 790 but using the ball as the hump to prevent going out. My conncern would be that when the locks engaged ball is pushed down against ti, when blocking overextension would you eventually put wear on the weild

I'm a little confused because Jessie and Heather at CRK said they (Umnums/Startacs) will be made with the LBS from now on and that was what was sent to WC. I'm not sure if its the same method shown in the pics or something else.
BUT John at WC had one in hand with the same date (Aug 10) that didn't have it. John admitted not being a knife guy and I'm wondering if what he had in his hand was a LStarbenza instead of a Startac. I asked him to make sure it was a Startac and he confirmed it, but it contradicts what CRK told me. At first he had no idea what I was talking about and I was getting a little frustrated. So I sent him the same pic I originally posted, and he responded that he had no idea what that LBS was and how I got it. So he put another one in the mail, credited me shipping and asked me to send it back as they were all curious what I had. Regardless, something will be in my possession tomorrow from WC...its either going to be a Startac or Starbenza...either way it shouldn't have a LBS on it. And if it is a Startac with the LBS, oh well...it is what it is and I'll use it just the same.
I'm neither a jewelry guy or a hard user. I wish I were a hard user, but on my job, that would mean the shiz has hit the fan. What I received, I just didn't expect. If I knew what I was getting, this post probably wouldn't have started and it wouldve been fine. Kinda like when you first started getting into knives and Spydercos looked fugly...now I can't stop buying them. Just takes time to grow on you...

I would bet WC has stock from more than one shipment on hand, and whatever came last (newer version) ended up on top--hence you getting the new version when they had older ones available.
