WC Startac (new model?)

I wonder if you accidentally got a secret proto that was accidentally shipped to wc. If these new umnums don't come around to being made you could of had a super awesome/expensive as hell collector piece you let slip through your hands

I can promise you that the over travel of the lock bar is a HUGE problem for CRK's warranty dept., and that returns on Umnum's is prob a big percentage of warranty issues.

The tension is so stiff on an Umnum, that most people(esp non-knife) people's first reaction, is to bend it out, thinking that they can ease the tightness. Problem is,the slightest manipulation of the lockbar tension, throws the whole knife out of spec in terms of locking up solid with no blade play.

The quicker Mr. Reeve gets a "lock bar stabilizer" on there, the quicker he dramatically reduces the amount of returns on Umnums.

The one on the OP's knife looks like crap....i know Mr. Reeve can come up with something better than that...i hope

We ll see what I receive on friday! i ll post pics as soon as I get it. I just cant see CR knives making that a production knife! It does look like crap lemmuhj!

I was actually thinking this same thing, and I think for what its worth that that would be an excellent idea. Problem solved...........Chris......Chris...........Hello.

this would be a great idea, easy to solve easy to do
I also saw an umnum o r a proto umnum that had a 2nd ceramic ball in the handle preventing vertical play of the bar itself, same thing that the lockbar does (avoids movement of the lockbar)

actually never saw the need to have any gimmick added, use my ummi to CUT things and stuff, love the easy to clean and clean design a LOT

Anyone else out there recently receive a StarTac Umnum from Wilson Combat? If yes does it have this new feature??

As a side note, does it also come with the WC Logo on the pocket clip like in the pics from the site? Most pics from people I've seen it does note seem to have it?

If not that would annoy me if Wilson Advertises it being on there.

The WC logo is on pocket clip of the Startac that I still have in my possession. I think I'm going to hold onto it at least until I get the other one they sent me...

May I ask how you know these things to be true?

I can't believe Chris would allow this out of his shop. I think I could like it if it were "dressed up" a little. Maybe something along the lines of the dress pivots that are on the Mnandi would look sharp. I will admit that it sure will help the knife in utility.

I don't mind the stamp, just would prefer it said Made in the good 'ol USA instead of Idaho, after it basiclly means the same thing

I think it would look much better just under the clip at the rise halfway down the lock bar, or even better, on the inside of the lock bar. I like the idea of a hidden lock stop, IMO that would be more inline with what CRK are about design wize.

I don't know if they are using the Hinderer disk styled lock stop as a matter or honoring Mr. Hinderer or if other options would be considered. My first choice would be to have a pin press fitted (rather than threded) in the lock bar that contacts a cut out on the inside of the scale. That would look super clean and would not be visable from the "outside". It would add virtually no extra surface area, or little nooks and cranies to collect dirt in. That would be an issue for dressing game when one would see the knife getting bloody etc. and just for cutting food in general. That is one of the things I have always liked about CRK folders. If they get bloody, muddy, or otherwise sweaty and messed up they are very easy to clean properly.

The first few batches did not have the WC logo on the clip, but the new batches do.
