It probably would be better, but as soon as we try to forget the pink, sure as heck someone will want a pink one. Ya just can't win.

id buy the pink one for Mindy. then shed leave MY Beckers alone. maybe it could be called the Becker "Lady Folder" :D...i showed her that these big knives make kitchen work a breeze(didnt you see my deer loin thread?)....big mistake.

i never thought of using them in the kitchen. currently we have a full set of chicago cutlery that will NOT hold an edge, and a USA made schrade 165 (convexed of course) that sees the real work. adding a 7 to the kitchen arsenal sounds like a plan.

dang, now i have to buy another! :D

If there were a "Lady Becker" line, I wouldn't market them as such, and avoid wussifying them with pink direct from the box. I think that sort of marketing would undermine things. Aftermarket grips can be sold even direct from the MFR.

An exact 80% scale line would be pretty awesome. It would fit smaller hands better and be a bit lighter for long-term use or carry, for any gender.

An 80% BK2 would have a 4.2" blade at 0.2" spine thickness. Still a beast, but a little more portable. Sort of an "Operator" vs. Camper variation of the BK2. Going down to 76% makes the magical 4.0" blade length mark, but strikes me as a bit much for handle reduction.

One great reason to bring out such a line?
Every time you order a new Becker you could order it's 80% counterpart for her. Much easier to ask forgiveness :-) But you'd better have a nice storage solution for her collection too, and separate from YOUR pile!

i like that way of thinking..."one for you, one for me...two for you, two for me":D

Exactly. A fiscally dangerous strategy with expensive things like motorcycles, but for knives in the $60 range, pretty manageable for most folks. And honestly, I just want to help people.

Problem is... I'd want the 80% BK2 for myself too.
Maybe one for the kitchen, one for the hunting kit...

I agree with much of what you're saying, Daizee. I don't think there should be a "Lady Becker" line, either. Let's keep a Becker a Becker, and if M'lady happens to like it for what it is, then that's a good thing. If she happens to want pink grips, then those should be after-market accessories.

As far as scaling down the actual BK-2, I don't really see any need. The BK-2 is a massive piece of steel loved by thousands, including me, for a very long time. Yes, with its 5 1/2 inch long, quarter inch thick blade, it's a little more than some people want to carry.

No need to worry, though, since the Tweeners will be out soon. The BK-2 may be a little large for some, and the BK-11 may not be everyone's cup of tea, either, but the Tweeners should fill the gap very well, indeed. They'll be great Becker blades designed by Ethan to fit right in between the BK-11 and the BK-2: just right for those who want something a little more manageable.

As far as the size of the folder, I had to make some concessions to physics. I made the handles just a little shorter than the BK-2 (just a little, though), and since the blade has to fit within the handle (it is a folder, right?), I made the blade a little smaller at just under 4 inches long and 3/16 inches thick. It's still a big, beefy Becker, with much of the look and feel of the BK-2, but it's not just a scaled down BK-2.

If M'lady wants one with pink scales, well, maybe something could be worked out.:D

Oh, don't get me wrong - I wouldn't ever suggest REPLACING the BK-2. No way!
There would just be a BK-2/80 as well. I suppose I'm revealing one version of what I'd want in a tweener.

A version that many of us have wanted for a very long time.:D

For a long time now I've been asking for a version with the standard Becker handles (they're my favorite handles on any knife, bar none), but with about a 3 3/4 or 4 inch blade. I'm sure a lot of people were getting tired of my incessant whining, but I really wanted one (still do, as a matter of fact).

But now the Tweeners will be coming out. Will they be exactly what I've asked for? Who knows? I guess we'll find out at the Blade show at the beginning of June. As far as I know, they'll have smaller blades and a redesigned handle, too. But the thing is that they'll be genuine Beckers, and I can hardly wait.

i love the way the Becker section has livened up in the past couple days...do you suppose the "big guys" are taking notes? afterall we are loyal customers, and in the General Discussion, theres always a tread asking for a affordable Bowie, and they GOTTA be sick of me suggesting the BK9 over and over. Bwahahahahahahah! im sure some even think im on the payroll.:D

id like to see your BK2/80 and a Tweener side by side. NOTHING will replace my BK2 EVER, but i do like these ideas. afterall, ive been chanting "Tweener" for awhile now:thumbup:

"And all the Gods laughed at the ego of man, thinking himself worthy of notice."

I don't remember where I read that as a child, but your post brought it to mind.:D

Who knows whether they're following all this or not. Ethan and Toooj don't miss a whole lot: whether they want to chime in or not is a different question.

I'm sure they'll weigh in sometime, although it may just be Ethan telling me to go stand in the corner for presuming to put the Becker name on my design.

and i dont care what you He-Men say, I WANT PINK scales! i have daughters(10 and 14) who camp, shoot, and hunt a little plus a woman who carries a knife/pepperspray in her purse daily. a Becker in the bottom of her purse would make the thing a club if she chose to swing it a a perp.

Well, maybe a different Becker would be okay with pink scales, but the mental image of a BK-2 with pink scales is just... disturbing.:D
