Not to get off topic, but is this verifiably true? I’m just an average consumer, I’m not privy to any behind-the-scenes info… I was under the (perhaps naive) impression that the drought at c&c was due to covid/supply issues, and that in time it would pick up again. But everything “new” c&c has released lately has been 2020 or earlier stock. Granted raw materials and cost are still out of whack, but has Buck ceased production with c&c indefinitely?I cannot help but wonder if Buck has a problem with exclusives. lol
First it was Sk Blades. Then it was Copper and Clad...
And Buck blamed them for excessive returns.
So they stopped doing exclusives for them..... for various reasons.

On topic - I received the Heritage 102 a couple days ago. First Buck knife I’ve ever gotten that isn’t hair popping/shaving sharp. It has an edge, but nothing like the 5160 or 420HC blades. The D2 steel is pushing me out of my novice sharpening comfort zone into diamond bench stones, so I suppose that’s an upside. Otherwise the knife is beautiful and I have no complaints.
I'm not a big d2 fan. it's okay but I would have preferred they just did these in 5160. I may grab one but im not overly excited on this run.
Buck has the ability to produce 5160 knives on their own. They have to wait 2 years after an exclusive with a dealer. Kinda like a non-compete agreement.I sure hope Buck isn’t done with C&C. Their 5160 blades were some of my favorites. I slept on that 117 in 5160 and been booting myself ever since. I kept thinking there would be plenty of time to pick one up, then *poof* all gone.
LOL... talk about the "long and short of things".
Oh snap, I told myself that I was not going to buy anymore knives this month to prepare the knife budget for a possible June BOTM purchase, but that 120 is calling to me... loud.
Update: 58 of the 120's left. I'm so weak....![]()
That is unfortunate. Let us know how you do with the return.Well... the 120 and 102 I ordered arrived yesterday, and I've joined the ranks of those that have received a crappy workmanship knife from Buck.
The tip of the blade on the 102 has been overheated during the grind to where it's discolored (burnt), and likely the heat treat is shot on the tip, and not to mention unsightly as heck.
It's going back, this should never have left the factory.

makes me wonder though, overheated at sharpening time or missed on sharpening and left with heat treatment coloring. where I'm going with this is...how much is the blank shaped before heat treatment and final sharpening? anyone know who's been on a factory tour and seen the process?
that answers that. if im lookin right.....bottom pic shows an end tip that has to be ground off. thanks Mike.Im not sure. This brown Thorn is unsharpend. I have a few.

Thats a wavvy grind. Kinda how my 104 shipped to me.
wow thats bad. must have had the new guy on the line that day and trainer was in the rest room and qc person was at lunch.
Awesome...they must have new people sharpening these days and I imagine D2 is more difficult. I agree with you on 5160.View attachment 1581015
I grabbed one of these d2 119s just to see, got today. not bad really. edge was dullish, but I took care of that already. I can't help thinking a 5160 run would have been so much better........
