Website Feedback

I am pretty happy with it,
Faster updates would be kinda cool. It took a long time (I thought) to get the new for '06 L.E. knives etc. up there along with the BCCI knife.
(But then again I sit in anticipation for new models :D)

Website format seems fine overall. Just would like to see steel selections on the Custom page kept current

I think this is a big item too!
Damascus hasn't been an option for some time now but recently there has been a handful of BEAUTIFUL Damascus blades that have shown up from blade upgrades.

Oh! That ol' thing? I got that at, ah, a swap meet. Yeah, that's the ticket. A swap meet. Traded an old Radio Shack Navajo 23 channel CB for it.
Yep. That's what it was.

ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS IF THEY STILL HAVE 110 BG-42! Will have to wait when the Buck peeps get back and check.
If I was totally outta my senses I would get one of those Alpha gigs in Damascus that are on the Custom page now. But, I only collect 110.

over all the web site is fine i like it....
coments:
the tour pictures are small...but only us buck nuts notice...
the custom page needs a note that
all choices may not be avabile due
that supplyers may be out of limited stock..
[[[most dont understand that sence the move buck is on a
lean mean supply chain machine modle with a on demand supply chain
and it keeps prices down but supplyers do run out...]]]]

and in the custom order form ~
a means to say
hold tell desired blade steel comes in
or
i will accept subtutes #2 or #3 if #1 is not avabile..

CJ,
I would like to see better options for making contact with Buck via the website. Perhaps a comment option that would allow for direct contact with customer service, company store, warranty dept, etc.

I never cared for the classifications used, and the whole implimentation is confusing.

"Hunting" sounds like it should be under "Outdoors," not an alternative to it (unless we are hunting indoors?).

Why is a knife with a bottle opener and a corkscrew considered "outdoors" rather than "Everyday?"

The pictures don't make much sense right away either, as at least 4 of them look too similar for someone to know why the categories are different.

No lockbacks or slipjoints are pictured on the front page. We can "conclude" that "everyday" might be the best category for a multi-blade slipjoint, but where the heck does a Buck 110 go?

After you click on a picture for a category, it becomes a list of sub-categories with no pictures.

The whole arrangement just needs to be done from scratch in my opinion.

As for other websites, I really like Benchmade's website. The search function gives you the option of searching by knife materials, action, hardness et al or by product ID. Lots of different functions can be found in the pulldown menus on the homepage -- very easy to navigate.

Here's my opinion.

The knife categories don't make sense. Every day knife? What is someone uses a hunter every day? Your catagorization scheme is arbitrary and meaningless.

Navigation both along the side and the top and bottom is the fashion now-a-days but it's bad for usability. pick one, top side or whatever and stick with it.

otherwise excellent information.

I like the web site content overall but it "feels" like you're shopping at Amazon when you're on it. The Case knives site has a much better feel to me.

A few other things:

1. It would be nice to be able to download and print a current Buck catalog.

2. Have an area with discontinued models or at least significant models.

3. I also agree with others comments about accepting PayPal. I'm increasingly using PayPal to buy things online.

Yes this site is good but it needs work. As a basic member I can post new threads in many of the forums. But......I do not have one clue why in hell I cannot post a new thread in the 'Around the Grinder' forum. It just doesn't any sence to me at all why this particular forum is locked out to basic free membership. I can fully understand why some of the other forums have restrictions, but 'Around the Grinder' is a pretty basic broad forum.

Bufford,
I think you misread the topic in this thread. The issue has to do with changes to the Buck knife website, not this forum.

I like the idea of Benchmade's search form, but I think their browsing ability is no better than the Buck website when you aren't searching for anything in particular.

Better categories would make it easier to just look through until you find something you want. A more traditional sorting of stuff. Slipjoints, lockbacks, "tatical" (though I hate that specific word), multi-tools, keychain-size, etc.

A search/sort by price range would be good too, especially for people looking for gifts. The gift selector page has this, but I don't like the current price ranges and the optional questions 1 and 2 make it look too complicated. $10 and $49 in the same range? I would probably have a division at either $25 or $30.

The gift selector might be a good place to have categories, like "do they need a heavy-duty professional knife, a small pocketknife, or something with multiple tools?" The current gift selector questions have too many details gift buyers might not understand.

Having received many knives as gifts, I can tell you that gift buyers don't usually want to think too hard about little details like the type of lock, they just want to browse and pick something that looks cool/interesting/unique/pretty, which are things that would be incredibly hard to quantify.

Collector-types like us can use a search page that selects steel, handle, etc., or browse through the hopefully new-and-improved categories, or check a page that lists the 10-20 most recently-added items.

Also...
I think each product page needs to show the steel hardness and where it is made, instead of having to "find" the hardness page or guess at the country.

I agree.... it would be nice if both hardness and country of origin were included. At the very least designate which are made in the USA.
