Welcome back! Current status, known issues, and more.

Yeah yahoo has always been *really* bad about delaying notifications & unfortunately activation codes and registration mails.
Thanks Spark. Like I said it's no biggie, I check in often enough to not really rely on email notifications anyway, just thought you might like to know. Now that I'm aware it's on my end I'll just ignore it. Really appreciate the help.

Not sure if this is an "issue" or not, but wanted to point it out in case. In the current format, it shows the latest post next to each sub. In the examples below, those latest posts are from areas that only paid members have access to, so didn't know if they shouldn't be displayed? The cove especially can have racy thread titles...

I'm able to use Shift + Home or arrow just fine in the reply block?
Let's say I have a three word sentence. Cursor is at the end of the sentence. If I hold shift and home, it should highlight the entire sentence. It does, no problem. However, if I press end, it should then deselect the whole sentence, leaving the cursor at the end of it. It doesn't, but does the opposite, failing to deselect the sentence, and the cursor remains at the beginning of the sentence. Also, I used to be able to select a sentence, as above, and then (while holding shift still) press and hold control and tapping right arrow to start deselecting words from the beginning of the sentence and forward. It doesn't do that anymore either. It used to. I thought at first it was another unwanted byproduct from a Micridicusoft update to my Broken Windows, but I tested today and found it's still the normal way in all other sites and in notepad and all my other programs, hence mentioning it here.

Anyway to make font display bigger on a tablet, for the forum. Have already maxed the size on iOS my old eyes can’t read the newer font easily and expanding the page scrolls the sentences off the page how about a big font in the style chooser? Would not mind a PM if there is an answer THX.

Again, this is in the reply box, right? Because my browser is acting exactly like how you describe it should be

Oh, yes, reply box (ETA: and creating posts, or copy and pasting segments without being in a text editing mode). I'll try a few more things. Thanks.

I'd also like to toss my vote in for the bold section re posts in WC and, PA

Just logged in from another browser, and the issue did not replicate. Thanks again Spark Spark .

Hi Spark Spark . I received a PM (Conversation) from a member yesterday and when I replied to him, I noticed that in the chain of icons to choose from at the top of the reply box there was the white, circled, emojie, icon and when I clicked on it, all the emojies came up; however, as I'm typing this message to you in the reply box of the overall forums, there is no white, circled, emojie in the chain at the top of the reply box - only alignment, paragraph formatting, insert link, insert image, and the three dot icon for more options . When I click on the three dot icon, the text of the message I'm typing goes down a line but none of the more options show up - the white, circled, emojie being one of the missing.

Can you include/insert that white, circled, emojie after the" Insert Image" icon in the option chain or fix it so that the "More Options" icons show when the three dot icon is clicked. Maybe you'd have to get XenForo to do it but someone should be able to do it.

Thanks for your time - appreciated.

Search engine is being troubleshooted and we're rebuilding the index. Y'all should have magic search goodness shortly
Maybe it's normal search behavior, but I noticed that search results (e.g. this one for the single word "sprint" in the Automatics FS by Individuals forum, titles only) return dates all out of order.

"Search" seems to be working as it should now, but I still have "a bone to pick." I use the Search function (not Advanced Search) quite frequently, and before the software upgrade, the default "Search" report listed its "finds" chronologically, most recent first. I found that to be a very helpful format.

But now, as K knoob noted, the results of searches seem to come back in "random" order, at least in terms of dates. (I'm not sure on what criterion they're sorted.) Is there some way for me to set some sort of "preference" so that the "Search" sorts/reports results in my favorite way, by date, newest to oldest??

Thanks for any suggestions anyone has!

If you go into Advanced Search, can choose between Relevance and Date, and Relevance is the default, so that must be what it's doing for the regular Search. I would agree I'd rather have the default be by Date.

I am seeing ads for the first time as a gold member. Is this a bug or new policy?
Thanks

I've enabled "Half life" for searches so that more current content is prioritized over older stuff.

Banner ad testing is going on as well, paid subscribers please be patient as we work out the kinks

This is new...

Yeah it's a requirement for the ad company to include that now. I don't harvest or sell any of y'alls info, but the ad companies do use cookies for tracking, and are required to give you an opt out

In an Advanced Search, I can select sort by Date, which I find desirable. But can I specify that an Advanced Search be restricted to just a single thread? My guess is that should be possible, but so far I can't figure out how.

If so, can't figure it out either. Seems odd that the regular Search can do something the Advanced Search can't🤷‍♂️. But per Spark's post #372, the search results should be more date-oriented now.

It does seem odd, doesn't it? ;)
I saw Spark's post about "half life" and searches, but I don't see much improvement.
For example I used "plain" Search on this very thread a couple of minutes ago, searching for the term "Search" and the results are sorted in what seems to be a random list of post numbers for the thread. :(

This is on a mobile site but my experience using other forums with this software says it should apply roughly to the desktop site.

If you want to search a specific forum or thread AND display the results in the logical, sensible, and easily understood 'by date' order instead of the mysterious and convoluted 'relevance' order:

After clicking the magnifying glass (or Search) and then Advanced Search, there is left-right scrolling menu that has options like:

Search everywhere
Search threads
Search members
Search media
and more

If you select 'Search threads' from that menu, you can specify a date range to limit results, posted by, sort the results by a few different methods, display the results in a couple different ways, AND select which forums you want the search to look in by checking (clicking/Ctrl-clicking) the desired forums in the drop down menu.

This is a much more clunky search function than before, of that there is absolutely no doubt, but I don't think the software allows any differently. Old search results default order was by date. 'Relevance' is not ideal. Relevant to whom?

The old search was easily contained to the forum were currently viewing by default AND the results were ideally presented. In the old search, you could widen the search if you positively wanted to by checking a box. Now you have to scroll through every single forum title in a drop down menu in 'Advanced search' to find the one you want and individually select it just to keep search from giving you results from everywhere by default.

The half-life setting will change the 'relevance factor' I guess I could call it for posts/threads. It would weight a thread/post from 2004 differently than a more recent post, for example and that would effect its placement in the search results list. But I would guess that is one factor the software uses to determine this magical relevance ordering.

All of the old search capability is there - you might make a case that the new search is more powerful - but it takes about ten times the effort and five times the clicks to do what I was able to do before in one or two (plus typing the word) and a few seconds. They made a global search function on every page. For them, it's great, as they design and implement software for many different forums across many different platforms. The search function is the same every time, on every page, on every device. And it does work. And work is exactly what it takes to get it to do what you want it to.

There are still oddities. For example, if you perform a normal search from the main page for 'Titanium' you get a list of results that look like threads.

Perform the search again but this time check 'Search titles only' and different results are listed. This is expected.

What I don't get is it seems like both lists all have 'T/titanium' in their titles. I guess I assumed that the word titanium was ubiquitous enough that there would be a lot of different threads with posts in it with that word than threads with it only in their titles. It probably has something to do with that relevance sorting and the fact we don't really know all of the default search settings in the normal search.

Here's the thing this thread:

is not in the first five pages of results for either search. How exactly does the software report and order the results?

Further observation, I performed the same search while viewing the General Discussion forum. Leaving it to search 'Everywhere' seemed to provide the same global type results you would expect. Selecting 'Threads' didn't seem to alter the results. Selecting 'This Forum' finally did find the thread above. It was number 15 in the list.

Really, the relevance sorting is useless. Get rid of it or make 'by date' sorting the default for EVERY search across the board. That would clear up 90% of the (valid) gripes with search right away.
