Well...It's Friday...

one reason is the cost. it is a $100 upcharge from Fiddleback

Allens base prices are lower than Andy's so it falls inline w/ non-bog oak Fiddlebacks

Supply and demand I imagine. If they swamped (heh) the "market" with bog oak handled blades, then everybody would have one and the competition over them, so to speak, would dwindle. With the very limited availability and rarity of the bog oak, and the continued obsession over them, they will continue to stay in demand for a long time.

I personally prefer a lot of other handle materials over the bog oak, but I understand why people like it. It's made from cool, old ass, swamp trees.

And as Phillip pointed out, that stuff is expensive! They have dudes snorkeling after those trees and getting in turf wars if you've ever seen the TV shows.

Thanks [emoji3]

I'm with you, all the materials you mentioned are beautiful.

I think the Bog Oak craze started after the incident with Gusbuster's Ladyfinger. Also there are very few coming out of the Forge.

By the way I do have some bog oak of my own...

I was able to pry this away from TxSportsman. Thanks Donovan! :D

If too much bog oak is taken, the spirit of the swamp will place a curse on the maker for all eternity.

i think we got a touch of that w/ the initial gusbuster incident......then followed up w/ the 2nd one

Speaking of woods, that becote Leuku that fogdart scored today was really a beauty! I was looking at that one long and hard.

I don't know what it is about the bog oak. I love mine...but love my ironwoods just as much, and there are so many others that speak to me. I think that one from Donovan is beautiful with the bolsters setting it off just right.

I carry my bog oak huntsman more than any other right now - at least around the farm - but it may be my mood, and the blade configuration and handle work so well for me. Don't know that it really is about the bog oak, though I admit I really enjoy the different shades I see in it depending on the light. Next week I may have something else that I'm enjoying more. I think that's the fun of collecting!

my favorite is koa followed by ironwood

but im beginning to start an osage collection since i got the PK

Yup. Love the koa, but I don't own any (yet).

As far as the osage, I didn't think I'd like it until I met SouthernGent at Trackrock and he showed me his collection. I could really go for a nice Osage Handyman with natural liners and blue stripes!

the more you handle it and it's exposed to light....the darker it gets

I'm a big fan of that Marblewood on the Mosquito today too. Never seen that before, but I could really get used to that...

I agree about the marblewood.
If you like the appearance of bog oak then you probably would like wenge, another of my favorites.
Here is my wenge Bear Paw:

The best shot I've ever gotten of how my bog oak can change color. It can look jet black under most light, yet at just the right angle actually look almost green. I think the Spikes Tactical emblem is quite fitting for a member of the Fiddleback family too!

Nice shot Tony! The sunlight really brings out the swamp green tones.:D
