well today is officially the worst day i have had in a whyle!!!!

Sorry man, but IMHO your story sounds like BS. If my junglas fell off of MY leg i WOULD notice just like i would notice if someone slapped me in the face.

I do not believe you one bit.If you honestly had that knife on your leg, on your belt and you lost it while hiking on a trail..well..lesseon learned.

If you are telling the truth, which i highly doubt, i am sorry for your loss.

PS: ESEE knives do not get warrantied for misplacement or total loss. ALSO>>>the reason for my frustration is that this is the second post like this in the ESEE forum in January regarding knives that mysteriously fell from a users belt...sounds like crap to me.

Why would you post that? Like this guy has nothing better to do than blow smoke up our *sses? Look at his Itrader feedback - he's apparently a stand-up guy.

Yeah that's me looking for a free hand out, well my friend you have some nerve! Im not looking for simpathy or anything of the sort. I was aggravated so I thought I would vent now that being said im sorry I did! Had I known people would be trash talking me for the fact that I lost somthing I would have never made this thread!

I wish you luck with your journey, I sincerely hope that you find your knife I know I'd be pissed if I lost it.

I can see how someone would think it could be BS....that thing is a BEAST of a knife with a huge sheath. The whole knife and sheath falling off along with your belt snapping seems like it would be impossible to NOT notice, especially if you were just walking trails. Also, I personally would have an awareness of the knife from actively looking for things to do with it...... If you had said you lost an Izula or ESEE-3 that was strapped to your bag I don't think people would question it.

Don't take it personal, it is just that ESEE are great guys and have given out free knives before so people are going to naturally question the validity of something like this. Like someone else said, this is the third or fourth post where someone lost their knife in the past two weeks I've been active here. I think the community doesn't want people to 'try to pull one over' on the guys since they are so generous and are being a bit protective.

I hope you find your knife, when you do it will make it that much more valuable to you and you'll also have a great story to tell!

Again, the knife and sheath will get warm from sunlight and melt the snow around it. Also, the thing is so huge it has to leave a huge imprint where it fell. If you didn't go off-trail it should be there......especially with the snow out there can't be too many people out there.

Oh no! I really hope you find your knife. Good luck with the metal detector.

What are some good heavy duty belts that could have prevented this problem?

I have some belts that I bought from a leatherworking web-store....might have found them on ebay.

A black one and a brown one. I think I got both 1.5" and 1.75" tall and they are at least 3/16" thick or so. They are made from one piece of leather, no stitching, no finished backside. Just a long strip of heavy/thick leather and a belt strap that can change out buckles. There is no way it is going to break.

I have had crap-quality leather belts from WalMart before. The leather cracks on them from where they bend around where the buckle sits when it is buckled. These usually have a smooth backing and stitching around the edges. You can get some good quality belts at walmart, though. Try looking for any Dickies, Carhartt or other super-thick, wide single-piece leather belts. They will easily fit the Large Tek-Loks or BTK's, G-Clips or any other attachment I have tried.

Like wildmanh (i think) mentioned, you can go to Tandy Leather and buy a 1.5" belt blank for about $9. You can also buy buckles and snaps and everything for around $15. If you don't want to dye it or don't have any leather dye/don't want to pay for it, you could take some Obenauf's or SnoSeal and cover the front of it with that. The leather will naturally darken, but it won't look right/match with your clothing for a while.

I do now know this OP, but before I would question his integrity, I think I would have to take a long hard look inside.

I have been on some pretty good adventures that have lead me to concentrate on many matters of things other than one piece of gear. I mean sure a 2 pound knife/sheath is big, but relative to all the other stuff some guys carry...on the outer layer...on a cold day...

If you are so in tune with a knife on your belt...or rather...so out of tune with the rest of the world that you have never been distracted enough to drop something and loose it...the ONLY questioning you should be doing (IMO) is to ask the OP where you might find and enjoy life to the degree he must have been!

Dude, sorry to learn of your loss!

For the OP, I am sorry if I offended you and hope that you find your knife.

I believe Jonesy story. I have a S&W 629 from the Performance Center that weighs 60oz. I went hunting this past season and took it along with me. I have a cheap holster for it because of the barrel profile. The cheap holster was the only one that would fit it. The stand I was hunting in has a bus seat in it. While sitting in the seat the stitching on the belt loop of the holster was coming undone. After shooting a deer I got down out of the stand and picked the deer up and carried it to the truck and headed home.

After gutting, skinning and processing the deer I sitting around bsing with some of the guys. One of them asked to see my S&W 44mag. I reached down to my side and nothing was their. My heart just dropped out of my chest almost. My $1300 revolver is gone. So I went back to the truck and it wasn't their. I drove back to my stand and started searching the long path to my stand with no luck. I got to my stand and climbed in it and their was the gun and holster in the bus seat. So I know from this experience even though something is heavy on your belt you can concentrate on something else enough that you will not notice it is gone.

I can understand a little skepticism. But let me suggest that we all ought to be careful before we call someone out. Doing so without some real and valid evidence is what I personally would call slander. I don't want to be slandered. I try not slander others. There's nothing worse than finding out you've ruined someones reputation, especially when you find out that they are an upstanding individual.

God bless,
Adam

Spent all day looking in the rain sleet and snow back tracked everywhere I thought I was and still nothing....I had so many false alarms with that damn metal detector, so disappointing! Someone had to pick it up I notified several people that frequent the area and nothing! I hope it turns up I spent all day looking!!

i have to agree. i don't remember anyone in this post or the other brought up asking for new knives. if the story is false, it really doesn't hurt anyone at all. say you are sorry to hear about it (or don't say anything at all) and move on. if the story is true, you are spitting in his face. totally uncalled for. just because you don't see how it is possible doesn't mean that it isn't. show some respect, please.

Sorry to hear about that. I can almost never go in to the mountains without coming home having lost something. I took my son in to the mountains yesterday to do some plinking, he's nine and didn't have school for the holiday. I was setting up and it was a while before I noticed my belt wasn't buckled at all. I almost wore my ESEE 4 or 6 on my belt. I ended up putting it in my ammo bag and was glad I did. I was too focused on the safety of my son and dog to buckle my pants after taking a leak in the woods! lol I don't know if it would have mattered though, since he had so much fun it'll cost me as much as a 6 to replace all the .223 ammo he used. :D

i could've sworn this post was going a different direction. glad you didn't lose your son. :D

That sucks, man. I was hoping that you would find it but I have no idea the type of trails you were on or what the area was like.

Maybe go back when there is less snow on the ground? It could be underneath some snow at the moment and easier to see when it is (partially) melted.

So if your story is true, post up a picture of your broken belt.

You said you were " walking on a trail" and lost your junglas, you dont even know what part of the trail you lost it on! Dude, if your story is true, that sucks...but it sure sounds like BS to me.

Posting on this forum means that you are subject to everyones opinion..including mine...they are just opinions and only YOU know what really happened.

Show us a picture of the broken belt.

i was hoping that maybe you just had a bad day or something. there is no reason for you to doubt the story and even less reason to try and call him out about it. leave him alone. maybe his mind was on the other crap going on in his life and he was just trying to clear his head on the trail. cut the guy a break. like i said before, if it's not true, it doesn't have any effect on you or anyone else. if it is true, you are just being a gigantic douchebag. either way, all you have to do is hit that little left facing arrow on your screen and stop reading the thread. show us your belt? grow up.

and if he knew where he lost it on the trail, he probably wouldn't be on here saying he lost it.

He doesnt have to post a picture of anything..He can dow hatever he pleases..Everyone is showing their sympathy, some are showing a neutral postition and i find it damn near un believeable...spend a little more time on this forum and you will understand. Him posting a picture of his broken belt would only gain him my apology and even more sympathy from everyone here so what does he have to lose..?

Why do you even care that i dont believe him that his JUNGLAS fell from his broken belt and he didnt notice AT ALL and cant find it? Like i said before..everyone, including YOU and ME are entitled to our own opinions of the matter...Dont make this thread about YOUR problem with MY opinion.

I'm sorry if ive offended anyone, i just want to see a picture...and if what the OP says happened really did, why wouldnt he post one anyway? IMO.

Its no different than me starting a thread stating that i broke my ESEE 5. With no pics..who would believe such a statement without pictures...same goes with fishing trips " it was this big!!" right?
