I haven't done the math, but I'd guess that this thread is 75% people lobbying for smooth beveled, and it's still losing. 🤣

The good news is that if sawcut does win you can always vote for white ivory and then sand off the texture. If you really want to get crazy you could carry the knife and the sawcut will wear away over time on it's own.

Having looked at all of the smooth white bone in this thread, I'm not excited about that option. No offense meant to what I'm sure are very nice knives, but it's not what I'd pick out of a lineup.

I think the good folks at GEC can do some amazing bone jigging. I have a few examples that bear this out - a 2015 Yankee Jack, and a couple of Charlie's Diamond Jacks from 2017, for example.

But they always (to me) seem to get sawcut bone done so well on their Barlows, with all the right flats, bevels, and squared off ends. I'm lucky to have a couple of Charlie's sawcut TC's and a couple of Mike's sawcut NF's. I certainly would have room for, and welcome another!:thumbsup:

On the other hand, I would be fine with the smooth, beveled covers if they emerge the winner. Hopefully they will actually be beveled, flatted, and squared in all the right places. ;) :)

Charlie's Diamond Jacks had fantastic jigging, as did his Navy Knife  Sawcut bone looks great on a Barlow, and since it was an inexpensive working-man's pattern, it's very traditional :) But the knife proposed is no ordinary blue-collar Barlow, not with those bolsters. For me, I think sawcut bone may look kind of incongruous with those bolsters. Sure we'll get a great knife either way, but I think there are better options than sawcut for a Barlow with those bolsters

Sure, I'm lobbying for smooth flat ivory bone, but I wouldn't hate sawcut if it's a nice pale color.
Especially once it wears nice and smooth.

We are essentially voting between a knife like the top two or one like the bottom four. If smooth prevails, there is little doubt the forum knife will be plain undyed bone.

Please just pick your preference folks; the one that will bring YOU the most pleasure to look at everyday. After all is said and done, it will be your knife to live with.

Both the TC and NF Barlows have fancy bolsters, and they look amazing with rich color infused Sawcut Bone! These are unobtainium; impossible to find and cost a fortune when you do. If you have any doubts, try to buy one. They are some of the most exquisite and rare knives made by GEC. We now have a unique opportunity to have one in a one of a kind new pattern delivered right to our door at an incredibly low price with no hassle. Some might be advocating for smooth plain undyed bone, because they already have one or more of these colorful SawcutBarlows squirreled away. If you don’t already have one of these vibrant Sawcut gems, this is your chance. If you never succeed in the usual lolly scramble when these beauties come out, or if you refuse to even try, this is your chance! This knife would sell out in nano seconds online.

Finally, it would be a shame to have to dye a brand new smooth bone knife costing good money just to prevent it from yellowing. The job would also require expertise and a buffing wheel to make it look right. GEC does not routinely use steel pins and liners on plain bone. I have had several with the usual brass. However, even if they did use steel, that would not stop the yellowing process, only verdigris.

IF smooth white bone is chosen has anyone confirmed that steel pins and liners will be an option? Admittedly the smooth white bone combined with steel liners and pins is a very attractive option. White bone with brass liners and pins doesn’t interest me at all….

Didn't Charlie waynorth waynorth say he was going to ask Bill Howard (I could have just dreamnt that!)? The other knives I have from GEC with smooth ivory bone both have steel pins and liners

IF I did change my vote from jigged, it would be a tough choice, as there are very attractive possibilities for each option.

Smooth bone in white/ivory (especially w/ steel pins & liners) is a classy and classic choice. I'm also sticking with mint or pale jade as a unique choice here as well.

Sawcut in a deep red (Cardinal Red is a rarely used color), Black Cherry, or Hemlock Green would also be a stunner.

Either way, I'm looking forward to see how the vote turns out!

Smooth bone voters it's not to late to be apart of something special.
Don't fall for this. Smooth bone is just as special... yes it is! Who's my special little cover choice? YES! Yes you are!

Side note...
You know how we use "er" to modify nouns, referring to people who belong to a particular place or group?
Like, "prison"-er, "foreign"-er, etc. etc....

Personally I'm sorry that we couldn't have all been in the smooth wood camp... aka: smooth wooders... but we just had to pick bone.
Now you get to choose between the "smooth" camp or "saw cut" camp.

I think the correct choice becomes obvious...

edit: "use" is spelled with an e... not "us"
