Whacha Been Up To......

Thanks for the photos! Yes, It is the American Knife Company. There are several on Ebay, just like this knife but in bad condition. Another one of the many importers of German made knives during the 50's and 60's. John
The customer dropped this off for the sheath. I don’t know any of its history. He might be up Saturday to pick it up. I’ll try and remember to ask him

Sheath I made for cousin’s leatherman has been serving good it seems. Makes me happy to be able to make something useful and durable.

Finished off a batch of knives too but kinda out of room in this post.

Beautiful! A couple of questions... what are you using to trim the welt and do you ever accidentally cut into the non welt leather?

I use a round knife for trimming the welt. Most of the welt shaping is done off the sheath so I don’t cut the non welt leather. Still I did it the other day and had to throw a tooled sheath away. Ask me why one of the knives on the website right now has a Boot Sheath instead of the Horizontal I was doing for it. Certain parts of the welt I use a push skivver

That's cool. Really like seeing things used and used hard in real life. You did a good job. The original Pancake Sheath for this knife had some air conditioning going on at the bottom:

The knife has seen some use too:

This is a small bag I just completed as a Christmas present for my wife. She saw something like it on line but had her own ideas about features so we worked together on the design. It looks simple but the zipper installation just about drove me nuts. Turning those small radius corners with a wide zipper tape takes a lot of patience and, surprisingly, some good whisky. It is supposed to look a bit rustic and I think I got that in spite of the shiny leather.

I really like the rustic look - especially yours. Do you mind sharing how you got it to look like that?

I've been using sandpaper, but mine just aren't quite vintage enough.

With this bag the trick is that it is a type of chrome tanned leather that will get semi-permanent pull up effects when folded or twisted. The more you manipulate it the more used it looks. Unlike other types of pull up, these can't be removed with heat or burnishing. Also a few minor scuffs spread around help as well. I say scuffs because scratches from something like sand paper look more abused that used in this type of leather. Most of it happens as I build the bag because of all the handling for hand sewing. The nature of this leather is that more of it will happen over time, I just like to give it a head start.
