Whacha Been Up To......

Just clean! Very clean!

Very nice, really nice in fact. Just a couple lil things. Did ya bevel your border cut? On the upper right corner(of the throat of the sheath). first pic. You've got just a hair of an over cut on the border. When cutting to a corner I like to stop about a 1/16" to an 1/8" from the corner and then put the corner of your swivel knife in the the corner of your pattern and cut back that lil distance to the cut. That really helps with cutting over accidentally. Hope I explained it well. Nice work.

My process is similar but I've moved away from the glycerin and use paraffin. It just works better for me. Mrs Horsewright uses the saddle soap though and that is the recommendation of the Leather Machine Co, as we use their power finisher. I think the finish over the edge after burnishing is really an important step that many folks skip. If I've rubbers an edge it gets two coats of Bag Kote after rubbing.

Very cool as always my friend! Good to see you around G2.

Yes it did!!
Thank you, Dave.

Mighty fine work you are putting out yourself!

Great tidbits of info there in your post…all things I do as well. Love it that you can so concisely explain the process.

I've only ever tried using a stamping beveler. Which do you prefer?
Thanks for the visuals, I'll definetly have to try it next time.
I’ve got two push bevelers. I hardly ever use them. On the next one try to get your bevels to the bottom of your cut. They should be pretty seamless at the bottom, not distinctly different. Ya bet hope they helped.

Dust happens! I was just sawing up some elk scales. Dust definitely happens! Nice work. What leather are you using? It seems very consistent.

The dust is actually from my A/C lol.

It's all hermann oak. Shoulder for the sheaths, side for the thinner slips. There's a lot of waste on the shoulders, but I haven't found another leather that has that same firm temper and quality feel... takes a beating and still looks great vs the softer imported stuff but when you count out the unusable bits it ends up being one of the more expensive options out there :( Oh and I burnish the entire surface of it which helps smooth it's consistency.

I do plan on trying out that wickett-craig you suggested though, genuinely curious about it.
