Whacha Been Up To......

I did not, it has a little wet molding but it barely catches the handle at all, I would never trust it to hold the knife securely and it's just to dang big and wide and big, did I mention how big it is?

So this is a large sheath then? Almost too large? šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚

I like your three layer welt. I do mine the same way, knife dependent.

Large and the handle is up high so it is awkward and also digs into your side while wearing it.
Thanks and while that is a lot to hand sew through, I prefer it over just doing a big wet molding on the leather, having that wall of leather I think also strengthens the sheaths too.

put together a sheath for myself as well. Even the best kydex sheaths are no match for custom leather!

Dug up Dave's tutorial for how to 'bake' his sheaths, I asked a mod to please put that thread up in the Tutorial section and they were kind enough to do so, many thanks to them and Dave.

This was what drove me to look for that thread as it's been a while since I baked a sheath, the ZT knife comes with a very robust...read unwieldy...sheath that doesn't really retain the knife very well or place the handle when mounted vertically to be able to reach and retrieve the knife so I needed to make a new one that is a bit trimmer and have the handle a little further down into the sheath, it is retained very well now and the belt loop is a swivel style so I can swivel the sheath up and out of the way when I go to sit down.

Here's a slice off the thread side, there are three welts, one that follows the sheath all the way to the bottom and the other two to keep the opening of the sheath wider to help get the knife back into the sheath.

And no, I don't take in fixed blade sheath orders, just when I have to will I make one for myself ;)

Still calling DIBS for March.....šŸ˜‰..........Nice job on that sir....šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘.........Double dibs....šŸ˜‰

Lorien Lorien really nice work !! The BFK is not the easiest knife to build a fold over sheath for. You nailed it with these and you got a beautiful color tone on them šŸ‘šŸ‘
Very nice my friend šŸ™‚

I, for one, am disappointed with this photo. What, no bare toes?!
🤣
seriously, though- nice work, that is a lot of stitching!

ps. thanks Horsewright Horsewright - for the encouraging wordsšŸ«¶šŸŽ
Well, I rarely show off my toes, so it was a little teaser. Haha.

Thank you, Lorien. Your new run looks killer.

Killer job Coleman....šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘......
Thank you, sir. 😊

Here is another photo, but with stealth toes, Lorien Lorien šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£

It was a challenging build. With a knife this large and with weight, it’s important to get the balance right with where the loop sits. Also, this is an David Mary David Mary knife, so it is insanely sharp. The handle retention strap has all hardware covered with leather so as not to rub on the knife handle. The strap also has cordage to pull it out of the way when unbuttoned so that when withdrawing the knife it doesn’t cut the straps.

When I said ā€œYesā€ to this project, I didn’t realize that the knife was ginormous! šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£
It was a really fun build and the customer is a fantastic gentleman and super awesome to work with.

This is my take on a Makers Leather Supply Travel/Duffel bag pattern. I generally followed his pattern but did add in some lining with a pocket. I am pretty pleased with it although I managed to dislodge a zipper stop when I turned the bag out so I need to figure out a way to fix that. This is the most hand sewing I have done on any project in all the years I have been doing leatherwork. Took awhile.

Wow that is a lot of hamdsewing! Great job! I see a Cobra 26 in your future ya keep on making bags!
Damn. I wish there was someone who came to me and said "Hey, I heard you are travelling so I made you a $1000 duffel". 😁
Beautiful work!
For a K we’ll make ya two!!! Ya know it is cool to be able to make things. Years ago a buddy was over on a Friday afternoon, having a beer. I was working on a belt. He said: ā€œIt must be great to sit down and make something and somebody else wants to buy it from you.ā€ It is cool!

Awesome!!! How are your hands? Mine get sore. Haha. Well worth it though.

Also the welt has a slight convex shape with a cutout section that the guard snaps into, a cam like action to aid in retention.
