Whacha Been Up To......

I just finished up this one for my swamp rat Desert Patrol. Finishing the inside edges around the cutout for the strap is a real pain in the neck. I think I need to make something to handle that chore. The wooden burnisher I have is a bit too big for the job. I’m thinking about making making a small one from a hardwood dowel.

Nice work ! I use a chopstick and even wooden q-tip shaft to burnish the tight spots. Albeit, the point that Horsewright made about designing the nooks and crannies out makes sense. Whodathunkit !?!…I’m pretty new to the craft.

After fighting around 3 dozen multi-layer sheaths, I finally realized I could burnish edges before gluing and stitching. And they say I’m a ‘lil slow. 🤣🤣🤣

Again, nice looking sheath !

solid work and progression, Michael. Your perseverance is serving you well, keep it up!

Lot’s of practice (trying new techniques) have led to this nearly complete sheath. It’s made of 5 layers of dyed vegi-tan w/ top overlay and ray skin inlay.

The belt loop can be detached by removing 6 Chicago screws. Stold this trick fair n square from the great @duramax . 🤪

The sheath is specific to the Carothers (CPK) FK2. I sincerely hope it serves its new owner well, for years to come. He challenged me to increase my humble skill/experience level on this one.

Btw, I’m Michael and have been making leather sheaths for about two years. It’s purely a hobby unless I’m commissioned to make one for a specific knife that both the requestor and I own.

A few of you on this sub have inspired me and even offered pointers. Thank you !

Top notch work....👌👌👌.......

Great job.....👍👍👍

Got to throw in my 2 cents too. Excellent work there and some pretty darn nice pics showing it too! I’m the same as the other guys just a small ball peen hammer and a setter.

Stick a fork in er….she done !!! 🤪 Thus far, this has been the most complex and challenging sheath I’ve attempted.

The member that requested it basically had me on remote control for materials, color preferences, ride height, retention strap, etc. The inlay and overlay were inspired by the great Paul Long. Non.Nisi.Te Non.Nisi.Te ’s vision and creativity complimented my own.

I've been looking into sewing machines, and I think it's about time I pulled the trigger...
What will you mainly be sewing? I have the Sailrite leatherwork and it has been great for me so far. I mainly stitch belts and straps which are long and thick (10-11oz a lot).
I stiched a 10-11, 6-7, and 2-3 all together once and had no issues.
I was planning on buying a Cowboy outlaw or Tippman Boss but contacted someone with one who convinced me it wasn't the machine for me. I thought that was what I needed for heavier Vegtan leather and liked the price. Glad I splurged and got something electric. I was also concerned about an electric machine not going slow enough but this one goes slower than you'd ever need.
