I've had one of those Chinese Shoe Patcher machines for a few years and have had the same experience as you- frustration, lots of figuring, more frustration, the odd good stitch line but no lasting success. I hope your success is better than mine. I'll try my machine again sometime. I wish I could justify better machine. I keep watching for a used one but they seem rare around here.I got this hand crank machine a couple years ago, took it all apart and put it back together and was stoked to get using it- but I already had projects underway that I needed to hand stitch anyway, plus got a realish job- and I just couldn't figure out how to use it at the time.
recently, I've been really needing to get this thing going and I've spent a lot of time screwing around with it and trying to figure it out. As much youtube vids as I could find about it, and every time coming away with another piece of the puzzle.
just now, I sat down at the machine and took a real scientific look at my situation. And finally, after all this time, I finally got it to stitch! It's dumb, but a big day for me. I appreciate any and all wins

I've been using needles that are technically incompatible with mine, and I'm hoping that once I get the right ones she'll be good to go.I've had one of those Chinese Shoe Patcher machines for a few years and have had the same experience as you- frustration, lots of figuring, more frustration, the odd good stitch line but no lasting success. Thank you. I did use wood for the bracelet bar and steel for the base. The weight won’t let it fall over when she is going for whichever bracelet she chooses for the day. That's nice! What did you use in the inside of the bar itself? Wood?
You ever make yourself a. Strop for that emulsion????Thank you. I did use wood for the bracelet bar and steel for the base. The weight won’t let it fall over when she is going for whichever bracelet she chooses for the day.

Haven't posted here in a while. Finished off a batch of knives and sheaths. Been cold, been warm, been cold, can't seem to make up its mind. Grinding on a cold day:

This batch of knives included a couple of a new model. I call it the Elk Guide as it was designed with input by two different very successful local elk guides. The one in walnut is debuting in the hunting field this morning.

Also did a pair of charmitas leggings for a local friend. Just finished them off yesterday. Nichole and I tag teamed this. She did the sewing and I did the cutting, fitting and glueing. This pair had dual colored fringe, green on top and white underneath. The stitching on the leg that holds the white piece on underneath:

The apron with the same stitching and the double fringe cut:
