Whacha Been Up To......

Dave, is that pile of wood/tree debris scraps from logging operations?
Yeah it's a slash pile. They're finally getting serious about cleaning up some of the forest around here it seems like. There were numerous smaller slash piles in several different areas. We were told about this one by the Forest Service. It was ideal as we could drive right up to it as you could see. So we were cutting logs into four or five foot sections and then load em in the truck. We'll actually be cutting them into manageable rounds and splitting them tomorrow. We buy a permit from the Forest Service to cut firewood and they give ya a map on where to go. The permit costs $10 a cord and you can get up to 10 cords. First day working this slash pile we pretty much got all the easy stuff out. Second day we'd put some tow straps on a log high up and tug it down with one of the trucks. This worked very well. Had to be a little judicious with what log was holding up what log.

There had been some snow in the high country which was still around. As you can see here. There was a lil in the shadows where we were working but temps were in the low to mid 60s. All pine and cedar:

Than you kindly. I’m very happy with the mulit-piece sheath.

This last one…no one would really know what bothers me. I would do a few steps in a different order next time. :)

The edges on that one look particularly nice. Are you hitting them on a belt? Doesn't look like a stand alone bevel/burnish job.

Giving ya two days to practice and get the hang of it. Then I expect custom boot top perfection:

Aw heck probably the wrong machine for that! In all seriousness CONGRATS! While not personally familiar with that machine I'm pretty experienced with machine sewing. If I can be of help when ya have a problem I'm only a phone call or a type away. And there will be a few bumps in the road but ya get it figured.

That's insane.

Still kicking stuff out around here. Getting the Christmas orders out. Nichole just finished a purse and is working on a duffel bag. She won't give me pics though till after Christmas as they are both personalized with brands so we're always kinda careful of posting those kinda pics prior to the Holiday, don't want to give anything away. I'm partway through another batch of knives and should have them done say Monday. I did finish off this pair of spur straps:

A Couple of belts too. Hardware except the tip provided by the customer, I sourced the tip. First Ranger belt I've made in25 years or so. I've done quite a few tapered belts but this is a true Ranger belt that slips back on itself underneath the buckle.

It's always tough to take pics of belts. Only so many poses I guess. Un split fire wood from above was our backdrop this time.
