Three "sets" out this year just before Christmas:

Two sheaths for this Sonoran Skinner qualifies as a set, I guess:

This set is for a guy from Australia. International shipping is tricky these days but he was here in the US visiting family and I was able to get it out to him while he was here:

Big fan of your plain sheaths for some reason, those look super clean.

As for what I've been up to.. not much! Been waiting on Wickett & Craig to ship my latest order for two weeks :(

I've been playing around with Easel and trying to get some sheath templates programmed for my laser. I traced and imported a picture of the knife with the carbon fiber bolster, curly masur birch handle that I did the water buffalo sheath for, but didn't like how it turned out. From the blade image, I made an oversized welt with cam lock, belt loop and sheath body template. Now I need to cut it out with the laser and see how the pieces go together! I also made an oversized template to do other knives in the same overall size range, but left the welt a bit larger to custom fit to the individual knife. When I go to cut it, I will probably remove the knife cutout and put the belt loop in it's place so I have to use less material.

I can move the pieces around to see how it would look stacked up and stuff, too. This is what it would look like as a lefty sheath to show the belt loop better.

Very nice! What are you using on the edges of the water buff?

Yeah I've had delays in shipping before, ordering directly from the tannery, in the past too. I don't very often. I order from The Hide House most of the time. Couple of days not a couple of weeks. I once had the tannery split a side for a special project, a pair of horn bags for a saddle. They will do this free of charge which is cool, so I had them split my 8/10 oz side down to 6/7oz. Sales told me it would take a couple of days to get er done. Yeah, it was a couple of months till I got it. I've since found Makers Leather Supply. They often have the russet skirting in lighter weights, already split down. Currently, they have 2/3 oz and 4/5 oz so if a guy needed some lighter weight ya wouldn't have to wait so long for it. They are currently out of the 6/7 and the 8/10. The 8/10 russet is the standard leather and weight I use.

I might give your blade a little more room. The welt doesn't need to be that wide. I've found and yet to understand why but seems like blades need more room than a guy would think. Especially when dealing with a cam lock. To get that really cool clunk when the knife is put into the sheath, probably gonna need a lil more room.

That was my first thought too, Dave.

Glad you beat me to the post. More clout coming from you than me! 🤣

Hope all is well. I always enjoy your posts. I gotta get myself out your way sometime!

Yeah, I left the welt wider so I can tune it down to this knife. Figured I would start tight and oversized inside (closer to the blade/handle) and out (stitch side) on the welt and then tune it into place. I will make the welt a little thicker at the tip as well before I cut it out. I use a 1/16" bit in Easel to do the programming, so the laser kerf is MUCH less, so it will have some extra size to it and I will trim down as needed. It's going to be my first time doing a leather pattern on the laser, so everything is a bit oversized so I can tune it better once I get the pieces cut out.

Good deal!

The generic one is even more blocky/oversized. Sometimes I do a reverse tanto, sometimes drop point, clip point, spear point, etc from the main blank, so this welt is VERY oversized to let me trim to any of the blade shapes.
Might consider length too. You don’t have to make your sheath longer, just move the cam on the welt up.

So bring the cam up more towards the palm swell of the handle instead of the finger choil closest to the blade?

Dave knows all! Sure enough, I had requested they cut and split the belly of some 8-10oz skirting down to 4-5oz (for my belt loops).

Stitched myself right up with that one.

Yeah that gives ya a lil more length without lengthening your design. Trick is not to negate the cam with the palm swell. There will be a happy spot.
