Wharncliffe Delica - any interest? (Pics)

They have a type of Cocker Spaniel called ASCOB...any solid color other than black and my heavens I hope this knife is ASCOB

Video showing some usage and cutting abilities...

Jazzz, this is an amazing video. I could watch this for an hour. Sounds crazy....I know.

Thanks for doing all this. Great slicer it seems, can't wait until they are out.

Thanks Sal, for doing stuff like this. Little things like this are the reason that Spyderco is who and what they are. Nothing like a Spyderco in your pocket and especially in your hand.

Thanks, Dave. :) I like watching this kind of video, so that's what I made. I know us knife guys are strange, but so are everyone else with the things they like.

Jazzz, after watching the video, you seem to have hit on everything this blade shape excels at and why it makes such a great work knife. please let us know when and where it will be available. Would love to see high end steel used but VG10 would be nice for the every day user.

I forgot plastic banding in the vid, which I cut a lot of, and it works great. I'll try to remember to say in this thread when I see it's out for purchase, but your guess is as good as mine. I can't wait either, guys.

I know I've said this before, but when I cut with this knife, it's pure joy to a knife afi. You need to see for yourself. The curve of the back says, "give me something to cut", and the FFG straight edge gets it done right now.

Killing me!! I desperately need one of these!!!

Gotta admit I had absolutely no interest in a Wharncliffe blade 'til I saw this video, but now I see the value. If the price point stays comparable t the current Delica, I'd be on board for one.

I'll probably get 2. Some of my favorite knives are wharncliffes. The two I have right now are 420HC and Case CV. Good knives, but any blade steel Sal decides to use on this Delica variant is going to have significant performance enhancements over those two steels. I've had one Delica in VG10. It was a great knife. I've had an older Rescue AUS-8, a Native in S30V, and now have a Tenacious, and a Sage (CPM S30V), and a little Dragonfly in ZDP 189 because Injust wanted to try the steel. I like all of those steels, and I will be perfectly content with VG10. I don't care what handle colors it comes in. All of mine but the Sage and Dragonfly are black and beautiful. But these can all be pink or orange or brown or blue or rainbow, and I'll still buy 2. At least.

Take. My. Money. I'm ready!

Jazz,

Sorry to veer off a bit on this thread. I tried to PM you with this question but your profile didn't have a PM option. In your video, there's this scene in your kitchen:

Can I ask where you got that large double handled knife hanging on the left of the magnetic rail on the wall? I need one of those.

Great vid on the Spyderco wharncliffe BTW. I've been hoping for something like this from Spyderco for a long time. I have a couple of wharnies and they get used more for chores than other blade shapes in my collection.

Any updates on these?

I would love to see these come out in VG10 and don't really care about the handle color as long as its FRN. It seems like a great utilitarian design and I would love to see it in an affordable configuration that more people can try. Sticking with VG10 would probably allow it to come to market faster too. They can always release sprint runs with more exotic steel choices in the future once the concept has been proven. Just my 2 cents.

I,m with jstrange on this one, VG-10 would work for me. With the possiblity of other steels if/when the concept is proven.

As long as there is a black handled VG-10 version, I'll be happy.

It's called a double handle cheese knife. It's been where I work forever, so I don't know where it's from. Just Google search it. Quite frankly, unless you're cutting lots of cheese, it's 90% useless. I use it for a strainer when draining large pots of potatoes, for example. Some people think it's a pizza knife, but it's definitely not. It's straight edged, for one thing and the extra handle is in the way, for another. Pizza knives are big, beautiful, and curved with one handle usually. I worked in a pizza/steak house years ago, and know the second handle would be in the way.

P.S. How do I get the PM option? I can't see why I don't?
