What’s the most desirable GEC?

This!
Definitely this!
Been hunting one for years.
I either miss out or the seller wants my first born.

It changes by the day. There was a time you couldn’t give away half of these patterns. The 66’s used to be available for years at dealers, they didn’t sell fast at all.

Now they command a premium it seems. Wish I had all the GEC’s I’ve sold long ago, my gosh I could sell them all at the prices they’re selling for and bought a new truck.

I guess if we are talking about the one GEC knife that is most desired by collectors, accumulators, or edc'ers of this company's products... Well, this one, (that I have in my collection), is certainly not it! 😅

I remember when GEC put them on the market, and WOW, there sure were a lot of folks that chimed in on these discussion boards to share their disdain for them. I mean, some liked them, some didn't, but there seemed to have been very few folks that were in the middle of that. Seriously... it was about as close to a true "you either hate it or love it" situation for a product as I had ever seen.
And yet, on the market they went, and just as much quality went into them as any GEC made knife.
Anyhow, it may not have been the most desirable, (or sought after), at that time... But, I could see it becoming that as the years go by, (but more as a cool collectable than anything else) 😃

This is a great thread. I hope it will remain positive and productive. GEC is like the New York Yankees or Dallas Cowboys of a few decades ago; very polarizing and sure to elicit strong emotions. The fact that the prices have gone up so much only makes matters worse.

BUT, this is just a brand of knife. GEC knives are a factory made product incapable of intentionally causing anyone distress. I hope we can discuss them without emotion and not let it devolve into yet another series of rants about buying and selling.

I would guess that the definition of most desirable is slightly different for all of us. Over in the Facebook world, most desirable seems to simply be whichever knives are hardest to get. It is a game pure and simple. The knives are only incidentally related to the chase. Those guys could easily switch to buying mini flashlights, ink pens, or any other shiny new item that is difficult to obtain. They enjoy owning something few others can have.

Here on Blade Forums in contrast, many people actually analyze the knives themselves separate from scarcity. I believe that is a much healthier approach. In that light, everyone should have their own unique list of desirables. I have pared all of GEC’s offerings down to about 15 patterns that appeal to me. (Only to me: I don’t think my taste is better than anyone else’s. They are just the ones that I like.) Those are the ones I focus on. Some would be considered by most to be highly desirable like the TC Barlows in my photo. But others maybe not so much. I try, with the emphasis on try, to resist the temptation of going after a knife simply because the cool kids are all over it.

Most Porch denizens also have long standing positive sentiments about knives in general. They remind us of happy times. GEC knives really evoke those feelings in me. I cannot wait to read everyone’s posts about these amazing knives.

Won't be more of these. Supply and demand keeps them at the top.

Single clip TC 15s are very desirable, 93 Waynorths are one of GEC's best and highly sought after too

This one is pretty nice!! A Toothsome #61 Congress, with pre-ban handles, "square" stamped bolsters, all silver hardware, flush spring (single) open or closed!! Very well made, and reminiscent of antiques made in a similar style!! They put a lot of effort and class into this knife!!Toothsome 1.jpgToothsome 2.jpgToothsome 3.jpgToothsome 4.jpg
Please excuse all the extraneous specks and scratches! All the choices here a wonderful, and very subjective of course, as is mine!! Chief Chief , that's a real nice collection you have!!

My vote goes to the Farm Boy! I have yet to see one on the secondary. A close second would be the 15 electrician knife.

That’s certainly one of my favorites, but I don’t think they weren’t too popular/desirable when they were released. I didn’t get into GEC until 2015, and I bought these two from dealers in October and December of that year, a solid two years after they were released. (There were Nifebrite Farm Boys in stock back then, too, and I still kick myself for not buying one.)

Amazing to think they made 47 of the Antique Yellow and 50 of the Rust Red and they still sat on shelves for two years.

How about this BladeForums #85? These were already like hens’ teeth by the time I bought my first GEC (and there were a whopping 191 of ‘em made).

I cannot answer this question. I don't seem interested in chasing down something that is already gone. The appeal to me is in what's next, the anticipation of Christmas morning is always a fond memory of mine. As we approach a new schedule I get a growing excitement, not the same as when I was a child, but a good feeling none the less. So my most desirable GEC is the one we dream about next.
