What’s your max?

I’d say $600 is where my comfort zone ends.

But most of the knives I like/buy are between $150 and $400.

However , there are a couple between $800 and $1000 that I like but I wouldn’t feel comfortable spending that much on one knife. At least , I don’t think I would.

$2,255 is the most I've spent yet (Kirby Lambert custom).

On the regular I like to keep it under $1k.

Seems to be constantly rising. I try to stay under $1000, but will go a little higher for something I really want. Above that and I am not comfortable carrying it. I am willing to be ridiculous, just not absurd. Wasn't that many years ago $100 seemed high-must be inflation :).
I enjoy the knife forums, but they have been costly

I remember laughing out loud back when I looked at CRK, RHK and Strider prices. That was back 2012/2013 when i was getting into knives. Within a year or so I had one of each haha.

My limit seems to be fairly flexible, I've had custom folders over 2k but if it's over 600.00 these days it's gotta be special. I always keep the door open to the thought of selling 10 to buy 1. (CD Shirogorov)

Once I had interest in a couple of knives that sold for $190 each. That was more than I was willing to spend on a knife, but in time I may have come around at least for one.

When I found that one for $115, I bought it. A couple of months later, I found the other for $85, so I bought it too.

I have gone as high as $150 on a couple of occasions, but that is more than I ordinarily care to spend on a knife.

Most I ever spent was $600 (back when they first came out) on a Demko custom AD-15. In my opinion it wasn’t worth it when a CRK is far better built and a much better cutter for a little less money. Now I know the Demko has the stronger lock for sure, but I don’t go around pimp slapping with the spine of my knife.

My max on a folding knife is about $200. Generally keep it less. I might spend a bit more for something I consider really special, but I have to be willing to cut stuff with it. That is the dominant condition on purchases. No art knives. The most expensive knife that I have purchased was around $500-$600 for a folder. Have no plans to repeat that.

On fixed blades, I try to keep it under $500 (most are far less). I might go $700 on something I consider really special, but like a folder, I have to be willing to use it or I won't buy it.

The real sad news is that I once paid over $1000 for a production Hinderer. It has when Hinderers were very hard to come by and there was a wicked secondary market. It was a 3" non flipper(fairly rare at the time) with the then new slicer grind and a ti scale(which was almost impossible to find)-straight from Blade. I sold it at a loss, but no where near the loss it would have today.

30 years ago I bought a late 1800s Swedish sailors knife for 75 bucks . I thought that was high back then . A majority of my knives haved been purchased at gun or knife showss over too many decades and I can't recall spending over 75 bucks
Having done that in the past , in recent times , I've had no need for other knives other than work knives that I pretty much destroy . I go through some work knives in short order but it takes something to catch my eye for me to drop 75 bucks ... but ya never know, one might freak me out

Haven't hit $1000 yet, but came very close once

I’m mostly a fixed knife guy.

In the past=$600-$700 TOPS

Currently=$200

I’m done justifying more expensive blades. I’ve sold most of them off .......at a loss.

$600 or so. If it's a rare one I'll jump up a bit, but not over $600. In fact if it's a regular size one that doesn't have a lot of unique features I think over $300 is too much. It's funny that a lot of people are saying most of the same in this thread.

Most I’ve spent is $2350, but at that price, I consider it akin to art - it goes on display for my enjoyment, not for use.

Users I’ve done ~$750 before, but now I’m trying to stay under $500. $600 would be my soft max for something special to use.

I started a thread like this a while ago (maybe 2 or 3 years ago , not sure) just to see what everyone’s max price point is on a single knife. And since things change , I figured I’d start a new more current one.

So what’s the maximum you’d spend on a single knife?
Well, depends on what am I buying a knife for.

EDC - 50€.
Work horse knife - 70€.
That one knife you have just to have it, and you feel sorry to use or abuse it - 250€.

I currently own just 2 knives, their price combined is around 100€, and they're also both in use.

Fallkniven is really popular in my country, but I'm one of those who went with Cold Steel instead. Despite being advised by everyone that Fallkniven is absolutly the best, I was like "I'm not paying that much for it, it's not gonna happen".

Extreme price doesn't always mean extreme quality, as one of the guys I know IRL experienced chipping on his Fallkniven F1 on first use, and then people on this forum told me it's a thing with Fallkniven. I paid my CS knives each around 1/3 of the price of his F1 and I never experienced such issues, and they're actually used frequently. That guy at other hand never really uses his knives.

With increase of the price you also get increased quality and performance, which is to be expected. But in each product line there is a point after which price hikes start to become extreme for only minor performance/quality increase. So, instead of getting absolutley the best knife, I strive to get the best deal.
And then, there're products where you're just paying name of the brand or the looks of the product, or the fact it's considered premium and/or prestige.
Each person is different though, and many people on this forum won't care about money as much as I do, and I respect that.

Most I’ve spent is $600. I remember when $30 for a Buck 110 was a lot of money I couldn’t justify or afford the extra $5 for finger grooves.
