  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

What’s your preferred folder size

3.75" - 4 .25" is my preferred blade length for a folder. I always carry a fixed blade too and that is usually 3.25" - 2.5" ! Nine times out of ten, I'll pull out a fixed blade for whatever chore presents itself. Most are.less scary too for the everything "phobes" out there!IMG_20200215_034939.jpg IMG_20200214_045955.jpg

I always EDC some form of SAK with me, so I do prefer at least a 3.3"-4" folder if I am carrying one.

3-3.25 for me.
In this little liberal utopia of a town I live in knives be scary! I have a stated issued CCW permit and carry a pistol everyday but if I get caught with a knife with a blade more the 3.5 inches I’ve committed a felony of carrying a concealed weapon...

opps sorry /rant

Medium. Most of mine fall in the 3.25-4 inch range. Smallest is a cryo 2 but I never carry it. Largest is my Resilience, don't really carry it (4.25).

Medium for me as well with 3.25-3.75 being my sweet spot. 4” is my preference for a fixed blade

I guess small for me . 3.25 is the biggest folder I have. I've even cut a few from around 4" to around 3".

Small for me. I can go up to 3.5”but depends on the knife. Seems like anything bigger that that I just don’t carry no matter how much the design appeals to me.

My favorites are definitely smalls.

I'm with you--for both their use as tools, and surprisingly defense.

First, the issue of tools. Unless you're using a knife to slice and dismantle some old cardboard box to retrieve the contents or breakdown it down for kindling, a smaller knife is better for "enhanced work." Like whittling, for example. Making a 'fuzzy stick' to light a fire when using a Bowie knife will probably make more slices to your fingers than the wood. You know, it's a boring job, you just want to finish it, your thoughts are drifting and suddenly there's intense pain where part of one of your fingers used to be.

As for defense, I was privileged to take some rudimentary blade training. Use a smaller 2-inch knife, and just polish it like a scalpel. Your attacker will have to grab something, so offer him the handful of a small razor. He'll slice himself, and not get enough purchase to lever the knife out of your hand.

I still carry that little red folder--my stilettos are gathering dust in the closet...
