What are some good 4'' blade for under $50

Sorry to interrupt the Mora pissing match

But in addition to the benchmade 201 activator

I also found the cold steel pendleton hunter

any opinions on these two knives?

Its more fun this way. The mora love in must have balance, sorry.

Send me your mora and I will break them for you. :)

Wont take much.

Reading all this stuff is what's funny. I am not taking up for skammer or anything. It's just funny how all he has to do is say one thing and everyone goes postal, even him.

Its entertaining though you must admit.:D

Freedom of thought and speech is a wonderfull thing.

Skam just needs to have his own thread about why Moras suck. Then he can just interject the link into every thread without directly exposing us to it.
Sounds like a good idea!
:D
As i said in a previous thread Skammer has a superpower that instantaneously alerts him when ever someone on the internet types "M O R A" and then he is instantly transported to his keyboard so he can comment!
(Skammers a decent fellow, he just seems to be stuck in a groove sometimes).
;)

I can agree with Skam to a certain extent. If I were a soldier I would probably use a harder use knife. But, when bushcraft is concerned I don't want to use a knife that is too big to gut or carve with. Hard use knives have their place, not in the woods with me, but they do have their place. I just don't see what more they can do in bushcraft or survival.

I would second the choice of mora 2000 and Buck 102 by the way (coupled with a hatchet/axe for chopping).
Buck needs a new sub 5 inch blade model with the same handle size and blade width, thickness and design of the 119. A kind of Buck baton friendly Bushcraft knife!
On second thought maybe thats a bad idea, all i've been buying lately are Buck knives!
lol!

Speaking of ideas for new Bucks how about a sub-5inch bladed slightly scaled down version of the Buck Frontiersman 124.
That would be sweet!
:)

We will assimilate you yet. Resistance is futile.;):D

Seriously though Mora's are good blades, they are dam sharp and quality for the money. I just dont believe they are for hard use in most situations let alone one where you may need to abuse your tools. Some say they have never abused a knife in 100 yrs, I say you should market your crystal ball as you never know when you might have to. Need not be expensive just sturdy.

Thats all I have to say about that Lt Dan.

Maybe ;)

Other than a trip to the grocery store or church, I don't believe I ever go anywhere with just one knife. I like Moras, they are good "slicers." If I want to use a knife for something other than slicing, I'll take along my F1, my Buck/Cabela's S30V Vanguard, or my "big knife" (8" blade) hand-forged from an old horseshoe rasp. Of course, I'll have my pocketknife (or pocketknives) with me as well.

I think a Buck 119, a Grohmann kit knife, or even an older surplus Camillus Mk 2 would do it for under $50.

I'll chime in on the Buck team with the 102/802 Woodsman.
If you basically do light chores and hunting/skinning, it is hard to beat.

Move up to 105/805 Pathfinder for slightly more of a light camp knife.

Never owned a Mora....

Here are some ~$50 or less:

From T-B, that's a $34 Wally World Buck 119 on top; envision the Buck 192 Vanguard with a rubber grip as the #692 $55; the $45 Buck 102 would have the same grip, etc, as the 119; and you can still find the early US-made Marbles Safe-T-Grips for <$41 shipped.

T-B these are the Buck 192 Vanguard again (~$65 as shown); the Benchmade 201 Activator+ in D2 ($82 delivered); KaBar 2032 Hunter (~$25-$30); and the Queen #92 Hunter in D2 (~$35). The KaBar is from Japan, all others are US-made. I hope this 'helps' - ha ha!

If I hadn't started buying Bark Rivers, that BM 201 may have really been a great deal - even displacing my long-favorite Buck 192 Vanguard. BTW, the S30V variant of the Vanguard is the Alaskan Guide 192 - a real beaut - but nearly twice your $50 limit!

I imagine you're pretty frustrated with this thread by now ;)

I'm looking for a knife pretty similar to what you're asking about--and have decided to wait until the Becker line comes back out through ka-bar. I think the becker necker is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for, maybe you'll agree.

I like the becker necker but I do not like the coated blade, right now I am leaning towards the cold steel master hunter or pendleton hunter.

I've just ordered two of Spyderco's new Mule Team knife, at $39.95, this may be an affordable alternative to the Becker Knecker. I believe they are a limited production item and only available at www.spyderco.com

You can pick up the Pendleton Hunter at a really good price if you look around.
It's a tremendous value, IMO.

The Master Hunter is a good blade, but in that price range there are a whole bunch of great alternatives.
(And - to confuse the issue - there all the great reviews of the Master Hunter when it was made of Carbon V
- now the cutting edge is made of the same steel as the Pendleton Hunter. Same exact steel, VG-1.)

Personally don't know of a better all around fixed blade than the Pendleton Hunter in its price range.

these are good ones..... 1/8th 1095 the smaller two are 6.5 inches or so and the larger one 10 inches oal
