What are the LEAST FAVORITE Knives You Own?

It was a no-name brand key-chain sized folder. The handle was made out of thick, SOFT rubber! It had a liner-lock that was thinner than the side of a playing-card! The blade looked like it was made out of chrome, with serrations cut into it.
Did it come with a fortune cookie? Actually, I bought a seven-dollar Eddie Bauer kife with a built-in light and I'm actually impressed with it. Got it at Target.

I actually love Target. (Great bargains). I saw the knife that you're talking about. I've seen other knives with built-in lights. All of those were El-Cheapos. It's good to hear that Eddie Bauer wouldn't put their name on a piece of junk..... But your knife is still 7 times better than what I found at Pep-Boys.:D

What are you doing at Pep-Boys?? You tryin' to get mugged? (You know you've made a mistake when you buy a nife and the guy says, "Enjoy!") Friends don't let friends shop at Pep-Boys...at least for knives.

Actually, I'm a car buff. The Pep-Boys I'm refering to is only a mile from where I live. (Sometimes I walk there). Everytime I walk in, I'm like a kid in a candy store! I couldn't help but notice the .99 cent key-chain knife..... they placed them right over by the cash register! When I first picked it up, I honestly thought it was a key-chain toy / key-fob. But then I opened the blade and realized they were selling it as a real knife!

Pep-Boys is a good place to buy car-related items. I usually get my knives over at Paragoon's Sporting Goods; a high-end sports store in Manhattan, with a very impressive knife section. We're talking custom-made tactical folders and Randall knives. They also sell knives from the better Production companies.

Yeah, I think Maxam sells goldfish bowls full of junk plastic knives. But I've bought quite a few Maxam knives in my earlier days and used them mostly for opening mail, removing splinters, slicing open cardboard boxes and such and they actually did a respectable job. Light as a feather too. Conclusion: I'd take one of them over a boatload of Gerber Paraframes. The latter can't even cut through plastic bubble.

I agree with Confederate on the Maxam knives. We used to get them from salesmen when I was groundskeeping in the 80's. They were nothing near the paraframe in lack of quality of material. I'm surprised we haven't seen the Gerber Truss mentioned. The design team went the paraframe one better by having a hook-like projection of the frame opposite the pocket clip. Almost impossible to remove from a jeans pocket with one hand....

Kershaw Ken Onion Chive. I like the look and design, but the AO action is prettey bad, and the knife has never felt nice in my hand. On the CRKT M-16; I like mine, but I'm not going to buy another one, if you know what I mean. I also had a nameless POS in my backpack, and the plastic handle literally melted off!

I'll go you one better when I say I think the Paraframes can actually get someone hurt. Ever tried cutting into a plastic bubble with one? The blade kind of bounces off and the edge slides around on top. (Don't try to stab a plastic bubble, either, if you don't want the blade to end up sticking in your leg or arm.)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the fine line of knives produced by Smith & Wesson. Oddly, while some are horrible pieces of junk, others aren't so bad. They must all be made by various makers.

This HRT Magnesium comes with a 3.525", clip point blade made of 440 C stainless. It uses two dual-purpose blade guards to prevent slippage and they can be used as a "flipper" to rapidly open the blade. Checkered dual thumbstuds also act as blade stops, while thumb ramp serrations allow for control during delicate cutting. Definately not worth it's price, but I got mine for next to nothing -- and it ain't my least favorite knife! Don't know how good the steel is. Judging from its going price, I'd expect it to be very good. But then, it's a Smith....

I have a Buck 119 special. Sucks donkey balls. Maybe good for skinning deer but if I cut a rope or something 1 time it goes dull. 420HC sucks.

Damn.... you just reminded me. Almost 10 years ago, I bought a Buck 112. (A shorter bladed version of the 110). I bought it as a work knife, but then found a better job instead of working on a loading dock. I liked it a lot, but the lock was something you'd expect to find on an el-cheapo! (Horribly unreliable)...... I considered buying another 112, but shortly afterwards; I discovered tactical folders and I never went back to traditional folding knives.

Would have to be the CS Magnum IX Tanto I picked up on ebay a couple years ago. San Mai III really doesn't hold an edge for s$%@. It doesn't chop well and the kraton grip started coming off with little effort. Glad I paid about a third of what CS sells it for. (I still think I got ripped off)

That's the one problem I keep hearing abour CS fixed-blades....
The Kraton handles are great for holding onto the knife, but they tend to come loose; after awhile.

CRKT Ryan Don't like this lunker at all, have tried to pawn it off on everyone. No one wants it. Tried to give it to my brother, he dont want it either. Hurts your hand when tryin to use it what it was made for....cutting?

You don't say what kind of Ryan. The Ryan 6 is a rather likable fixed blade formerly made of AUS 6M stainless. The Ryan 7 is a folder and is hideous. Blades are made of teflon black 420J. At first they look cool, but then the short, stubby blade begins being annoying. Not enough plain blade and not enough serration to do one any good. Blade is so thick the edge goes dull just by looking at it. Comes in brushed and teflon, I should have said.

I don't think it was made for much cutting.

It is, however, a nice toy.

Its a CRKT Ryan Model 7 This thing is the worst feeling knife. It actually makes your hands sore to use it. Don't see how it made it past marketing and developement. My friend hated it also so he gave it to me. Stay away from this nightmare.

The least favorite knife I own is my Al Mar SERE. I hate it because it looks too nice to carry, I'm scared of using it because it looks too pretty. I know its meant to be used but I can't bring myself to use it. It is my least favorite because I love it too much.

Well, today I'm a bit put-off on my BM 805 pre-production. A bit of use that even my 154CM 710 would take without qualm and I got a butter knife with a great handle.

Ughhh!

What devil possessed them to use 440C with the heat treat they used?

Well, at least the sharpening kit gets a workout.

Hey, just be glad it doesn't have serrations on the blade. I actually think this atrocity was meant to dispatch enemy guards who have their backs turned on you. Oh, well, at least you didn't have to pay anything, and it does make a fair fishing weight.

Nice photo, though.

The thing is, for me, when I buy I knife I don't like I get rid of it immediately. I sell it or give it away or in some cases, I just throw it away. So if I were to pick a least favorite I own I'd really be putting down a good knife. I just can't do that. It wouldn't be fair. :D
