What are the 'must have' SAKs?

For me:

-Classic
-Farmer
-SwissChamp

Although... I just ordered a Compact and looks like it could be one of the ultimate combos of usefulness and compactness.

I do. Corkscrew is great on naughty knots and the little screwdriver at the end of the can opener does Phillips too.

I agree, the corkscrew is very helpful for knots, and the other two flat-head screw drivers will work on any phillips screw anyway. Plus the philips screwdriver on the Fieldmaster is in a more awkward position to use.

I'm a little biased because the Huntsman was my first knife as a young boy though.

I also love the Rambler, it's the perfect keychain knife. I love that it's got a bottle opener, and the magnetic phillips driver.

Huntsman (has all the right tools I need day-to-day) on a monkey fist lanyard so it tucks under my belt and hangs seemingly weightless in my pants pocket out of the way of change and other stuff at the bottom of my pocket.

However, it won't fit into my flight suit crotch pocket, so I substitute a alox farmer when I fly missions. Both are great EDC knives.

The Climber has been my standard carry for years. Daily, in the field, and backpacking. Corkscrew and church key are required, can opener and scissors are extremely handy, along with the two screwdrivers. The small blade is good for razoring, and the large for general use. I find the toothpick pretty handy too.

I keep a Classic in my emergency kit as well.

Perhaps skewed because I am an ex-climber.

I like the farmer if it did not have the lanyard ring that digs in your hand.

Jeez where do I start! I love SAKs but my faves are the Huntsman (got 2 of them), the Midnite MiniChamp (got 3 of them), Farmer (got 3 of them!). I just got a special run silver Alox MiniChamp from SwissBianco and it's sweet!

Huntsman +
Pioneer Harvester
Farmer with scissors

The alox Solo, and the rather different nylon Solo are both good additions

Tinker Deluxe is the one I carry everyday. I do wish the hook was a wood saw but that's my only gripe. What's the hook for anyway? Gutting pigeons or something?

Boyscout Tinker was my first pocket knife. So for me the must haves are a Tinker and One Handed Trekker. I carry the OHT most these days.

I'm a fan of the Climber, Farmer, and Outdoorsman.

I would go by size and popularity;

Classic: 58mm. the first one I ever had (that many of us had)

Cadet: 84mm. Alox do I have to say more? :p

Spartan: 91mm. one of the more popular medium layers models (I have 3)

Swisschamp: 91mm. one of the most popular big boys with layers!
I personally like the Champion Plus because it was like 1/2 the price just without the hobby pliers

Farmer: 91mm. (actually 93mm) Alox people luv their Farmers! I have 4 (and all the colors they come in)

OneHandTrekker: 111mm. my personal fav because of the size and simple tool selection.
I got it when their were no PE versions and luv them, and I hate serrations! but Vic did them right here.

of course everyone has their preferences, what works for me may not for you but these here I have read about the most
and have the most, good luck and don't forget to tell us what you get!

:thumbup:Electrician Plus!! It's a Farmer with a small sheepfoot w/ a wire stripper instead of a can opener and no lanyard ring/bump. My Farmer went to college with my son after I found this one.--KV
