What are you watching & why? (splain)

Halfway through S2 of 'Slow Horses' and it's the best series I've seen in quite a while. Fast-paced and manages to weave humor and intrigue together in a way that never feels contrived. Oldman is in his prime and delivering one of the most hilarious and messed up characters of his career.

I've watched Pale Blue Eye twice now and am getting ready to see it for a third time this evening. I found it to be excellent - as fine an actor that I usually find Christian Bale to be, Harry Melling steals the show as Poe this go around. It's a really well done film and it has me interested in reading the novel it's based on.

Now a movie that I watched recently that I straight up did not understand is White Noise with Adam Driver, Don Cheadle, and some others. Adam Driver is excellent but I have no clue what that movie was about - I may have been a bit too into my cups to see the point.

I agree with both of your opinions !

I stopped trying to figure out white noise 3/4 of the way through....I have 0 urge to finish it

On a side note, the director of Pale Blue Eye was inspired to cast Henry Melling due to his performance in The Ballad of Buster Scruggs - if you all haven't seen that one, treat yourself, it is terrific!

Agreed. The Ballad of Buster was quite good, and didn't seem to get the attention it deserved.

Pale Blue Eyes is on the watch list. I'm a bachelor all next week, so it will be a good opportunity to binge all the movies the Better Half isn't much interested in.

TBBS was a great “movie” how they structured it as a series of short stories, I liked it a lot. I plan to watch PBE again at some point, I’m sure there’s things I missed.

Just started watching the classic "pool" (pocket billiards) movie -- "The Hustler" (1961) on Prime Video for FREE.

The movie stars Paul Newman (as Fast Eddie) Jackie Gleason (as Minnesota Fats) and George C. Scott (as Eddie's untrustworthy backer, Bert).

Not sure how long it will be available for free but if you're a Prime member now is the time to watch it again (or for the 1st time if you've never seen it before).

It's one of my favorite movies of all time.

Finished "The Capture" on Peacock. Worth a watch because it's a thought provoking look into the potential misuse of technology by governments to support their narrative and construct of reality...at the expense of "truth" and "fair play".

Not a pretty picture.

Do you play?

Just finished Andor and thought it was great. Now to figure out what other Disney+ shows to finish up. Loki is probably up next and then back to a few Star Wars shows before The Mandalorian comes back.

All Quiet on the Western Front (Netflix) in German with English subtitles if that’s your sorta thing (my ears are familiar with some German words but the dialogue is way too fast for me to understand anything of value without subs but I still prefer over dubbed). A powerful WWI movie based on a novel (Nothing New in the West) told from the perspective of a young German soldier serving with his volunteered buddies. Many very gory scenes, not for the faint of heart.
