What are you watching & why? (splain)

I watched Polar, it is a pretty cool action movie, kinda cheesy but I liked it a lot. My wife and I watched Wednesday and and thought it was cool. I’ve been watching a Star Wars show called Obi Wan, and have to say that it’s awesome!

Recently watched "To Sir, With Love" (1967) for the 1st time in at least 50 years -- yeah, I"m THAT old -- and I still liked it.

Of course, it's dated and a bit corny but the message still rings true. Worth a re-watch if you haven't seen it for a long time or worth watching if you've never seen it before.

Also watched Tár (2022) starring Cate Blanchett.

iu

Saw it previously on DVD but didn't like it because there wasn't enough "music" in it.

Blanchett has been winning awards/nominations for "Best Actress" for her performance in it. Can't disagree about her performance which was very good but the movie, not so much.

The problem for me is that the movie is entirely a personality portait of Tár -- a self-absorbed, manipulative and lesbian conductor -- and not really a movie about conducting itself, which is what I hoped it would be.

I liked it a bit more the 2nd time around but it was still a struggle to really care about Tár, as a person and, unless you can emphatize with her, the movie will be pretty meaningless to you.

PS: Forgot to mention that Tár is currently being offered to stream for FREE on the Peacock Channel, which is where I saw it again.

We started watching "Mr. Inbetween" on Hulu. OMG, did I ever need this show. Hits all the right notes...violence, humor, loyalty, responsibility, consequences.

How did I miss hearing about this Aussie gem?

(BTW, I hate Hulu...but this is worth watching.)

What do you not like about Hulu?

I have Amazon, free with my Amazon Prime, and HBO MAX free with my cable, but haven't yet subscribed to any individual streaming specific services.

Have considered Netflix and Hulu, as each have some shows that sound interesting.

I get Hulu for free from a Spotify offer years ago. So I can't complain about the price. It's the ads and the crappy way it plays on the Fire Stick.
(It may well be the Fire Stick, but I don't have the same issues with other channels like Netflix, BritBox, Apple+ etc)

This show would be worth having Hulu at least temporarily imho. Each episode is like a half hour and is a trip.

Watched a trio of movies last night for my weekly Movie Night with buddies.

Started with Bullitt. I only recalled the car chase with those sweet rides so seeing it again in context was great. Kind of an odd movie that leaves a lot of questions unanswered but still a great watch.

We then watched Forsaken. A relatively recent western with Kiefer and Donald Sutherland. If you like westerns (which I do a LOT), this was a solid movie - great visuals and an excellent cast (Michael Wincott is always a treat).

Ended the evening with The Thomas Crown Affair. I had never seen it before but it was a real treat on the eyes - if you know, you know ;).

If you want to "watch" something without really paying close attention, just for fun, shytes & giggles then try Physical 100 on Netflix. As the title suggests, it is about physical strength, prowess, agility, etc... Nothing that we have not seen before but there are 2 main factors which fascinate and interest me:

1- It is Korean TV therefore this physical challenge program has adapted some ideas from the popular Korean TV series namely Squid Game. It's fun...

2- I like seeing and observing the ways and behaviors of people of other cultures in their own domain and domicile. These South Koreans are so darn polite that it is both amazing amusing to me. Amusing because I was imagining if it was an American show, there'd probably be some ear biting and chewing, some shivving and other unsportsmanlike shenanigans aplenty! Then half the guys would probably sleep with half the girls and the other remaining half would probably date each other!

Just watched "The Post" (re: the "Pentagon Papers" which revealed why the War in Vietnam was prolonged unncessarily) and "All the President's Men" (re: the Watergate break-in investigation which led to the resignation of Richard Nixon) back to back in historical chronological order.

These are both great movies IMO and well worth watching again, if you've seen them before, or watching them for the 1st time, if you've never seen them before.

I was 21-23 when the incidents (which are the focus of the movie) occured and I'm amazed that this sh*t happened 50 YEARS AGO and that many of the people on this forum weren't even born then. 🤷‍♂️

For those who are interested in the history behind "The Post" and haven't seen it yet, there's also a documentary called "The Fog of War" in which McNamara reflected on the mistakes made in prolonging the War in Vietnam and the unncessary loss of life and the political turmoil caused as a result.

I also just binge watched the 1st five episodes of 1st season of "The Mayfair Witches" and it's got me hooked (so far).

It reminds me of "The Discovery of Witches" (which ran for 3 seasons) because it's about a witch who learns of and comes to grips with her magical powers but, because it was written by Anne Rice, it has a much darker edge.

I was able to watch them for free on cable but not on via FireTV.
