Dark Winds. I was able to get a better photo of Leaphorn’s duty knife. Because the actor is 5’6” I’m guessing a 3-3.5” handle and 3.5-4.5” blade. I would call it a clip point and tan or yellow handle. It’s difficult to determine handle material. Does anyone have any ideas on the knife maker?

And how would you describe the shape of that handle?

I would say the knife is a wee Bowie.
I would call the handle shape “junk in the trunk” because it’s got a big ass. <<< probably not what you were looking for.
The handle material, with its opalescent quality, looks like some sort of animal horn. But could just be cow bone as quality of pics combined with me viewing on my phone only allows for so much clarity.
No idea on maker.
Although this response likely isn’t very helpful, I want you to know that it was my intent to be helpful.
And it’s the thought that counts. Right?

All input is helpful. I was leaning toward bone handle (or plastic or blonde wood).
When you Google “wee Bowie” you get a lot of little images of David Bowie…
My guess is that it’s either some cheap junk in prop inventory or some small local native maker.
I’m not going to Google “big ass”, as I’m confident of those results

I've seen quite a few knives over the years with "similar" blade patterns, both custom and production. Bone or faux bone is a reasonable guess, imho.

I think it looks somewhat primitive, to make it look like it might have been made by an ironmonger or smith on the res.

My good friend Ray Kirk, (Raker), who has now been an ABS Master Smith for quite a few years, started out teaching welding on the res in Oklahoma for many years. He's from Tahlequah, OK and is of the Cherokee tribe. Just spoke with him recently after too long.

I have many knives from him, but here's a Scagel he made for me from his forged 52100 and stag. I have received both primitive and modern style knives from him over the years.

I wonder if "Dark Winds" will return to continue the Leaphorn and Chee stories.

We watched the “behind the scenes “ last night. They said Leaphorn a Chee will return, along with Bernadette. They made it sound like there would be more focus on Chee next season. Now they need another villain…

Blues Blues have you read the Hillerman books?
I have read a few of them, starting from the beginning, but I don't think I made it beyond the first handful as I recall.

BTW, the actress who plays Bernadette, Jessica Matten, is a beautiful woman.

Now I’m motivated to try to read the books. They said the three officers were three different series across 20 years and weren’t really ever together.
She is. They de-emphasize that in the show.

If you have prime I highly suggest you watch Full Steam Ahead.

They also have sister series: Victorian Farm, Edwardian Farm, Wartime Farm, Secrets of the Castle... some of which are available on prime.

Quality non-cucked programming.
