What are you watching & why? (splain)

There's no accounting for taste. Half the fun when I used to watch shows with my buddies was each person's irrational dislikes.
I read a bunch of the books a couple years ago. Very light reading. It is constantly stressed how big he is which made Tom Cruise a very bad fit. The book character had more of a manual labor build than a gym build so the current guy isn't perfect either.

I like in Toy Story 3 when the evil bear throws the toys into a huge trash furnace, and the toys all look at each other in despair and accept their fate and hold hands as they get pushed into the fire, that is pretty intense for a kids movie

We recently watched "Vice Principals" and "The Righteous Gemstones" on Max. Now we just started "Eastbound and Down".

Other shows we've been watching:

Current season of "Shetland". I can no longer recommend this show for a variety of reasons. Even the prior season lost me as a fan, but the missus was curious about the current season with a new lead. Oof.

"For All Mankind". Pretty good show about the space race and alternative history. Can be a bit "woke" at times, but overall, an interesting show and worth watching.

"Slow Horses". Gary Oldman. No need to say more. Love it. (Although, they really need a new technical advisor. The gun handling is beyond wretched.)

I was saying the same thing to my wife the other night when we watched the S3 finale. Remarkably bad gun handling - fingers on triggers all the time, weird grips, ridiculous clearing tactics, people sweeping each other, bottomless magazines, unexplainable clicky noises the second anyone touches a gun....I could go on. And I don't want to ruin the last episode for anyone. ;)

But otherwise I love the show.

I ground my teeth down quite a bit during that episode. Whoever allowed Louisa to hold a pistol like that should be drawn and quartered. (The tactics...don't get me started.)

Nonetheless, like you, I look forward to next season.

I just started the Blue Eye Samurai series per the recommendations of some buddies.

Three episodes in - it's deliciously violent, the fights are wonderfully choreographed for an animated series, and, err.... there's a lot of unexpected male nudity. Don't watch it if you're squeamish about seeing a bunch of animated sets of pork and beans. Otherwise, it has some notable actors like Kenneth Branagh, George Takei, and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. I've been enjoying it and I hope the series continues to entertain.

It is a great series!

And has been approved for season 2!!

And those fight scenes.... are Yoko approved!!!!

We watched it last season...but I couldn't make it through the first episode of this second season.

Reacher season 2 is definitely not as good as the first season. Seems like the writers lost the grit from the first season. It's like they only planned on doing a first season and didn't expect there to be anything further.

I'm having a tough time sticking with it. I think if I had anything else I was interested in watching, I probably wouldn't bother. Until I find something else that piques my interest it'll stay on my watch list.

It's my understanding that the directors wanted to highlight Reacher's more intellectual side in this second season, rather than strictly his physicality. I haven't seen it yet but from what I have heard from multiple folks is that they didn't quite deliver in that regard, even with viewers who understood the change in delivery.

Definitely a failed attempt at that. The story just isn't very compelling either.

Fargo (the TV series), on the other hand, is really good.
