What are you watching & why? (splain)

I watched Ferrari at my local AMC the other day.

It was more movie about Enzo Ferarri's personal & business difficulties than it was movie about his cars. I wish it was more the latter than the former.

While the backstory on Enzo's life was interesting, I ended up not really caring bout his difficulties w/his wife & the possible bankruptcy of his business than I was about just looking at the beautiful red 1950's versions of his motor cars and the relatively brief racing scenes at the end of the movie.

So, I'd rate it a 3 out of 5 and, as much as I liked looking at the cars, I don't think I'll buy a copy of the movie when it's released on DVD.

BTW, the crash scene at the end of the movie (there's always a crash scene in a car racing movie) was pretty gory but it didn't makeup for the rest of the movie which I found pretty boring.

Who knew Ready Player One (2018) was a Spielberg move?

I always thought it was just a lame (for juveniles only) gamer movie but it I just watched it (twice) on FreeVee and it's a lot better than that.

It's similar to Alita (2019) which followed it that I love. Both do an excellent job of blending real actors w/CGI characters in a scifi context that is very entertaining (to me).

The bonus is that I was just able to by a DVD copy of it from AMZN for just $4.99 to add to my DVD/Spielberg movie collection

I watched (& mostly liked) Season 1 of Reacher on Prime but I'm NOT a big fan of Season 2.

---------------------------------

Episode 6 of Season 2 (which was just released) is the WORST episode of any cops/robbers show that I've ever seen.

No one can hit anything with a gun or rifle after firing thousands of rounds (really)?

The "plan" to trap the bad guys failed because no one was in position to actually trap them.

There's a car chase/gun battle traveling miles over the streets involving automatic weapons without single other person or vehicle in sight.

The cop driving the car drives into a dead end (with an innocent girl in the back seat) and tells her to "run" & then does an OK Corral showdown in the middle of the street (a handgun vs automatic rifles), kills 2 out of 3 of the perps but of course dies & the good guys run over the 3rd bad guy before he kills the girl without ever being given the location of the dead cop.

WTF????

I'm willing to suspend disbelief but this "plot" was just too much!!!

---------------------------------

Oh, I also forgot the helicopter rescue of the bad guy -- the same one they presumably used to drop one of the "Special Investigators" to the ground.

How did they know he needed rescue? I didn't see him or anyone else calling for backup. WTF???

And even then Reacher couldn't hit one of the shooters sitting in the wide open bay door with his handgun, nor could they hit him with their automatic rifles.

What utter nonsense!!!!

Might want to add a spoiler tag for those that haven't watched the episode

Rewatching Becket this evening. 1964. Peter O’Toole and Richard Burton.

Also been working our way through The Durrells, or The Durrells in Corfu. 2016-2019. Super fun comedy-drama set in 1935. Just really wholesome and enjoyable. Linear storytelling. It’s got me laughing and crying constantly. It lacks the gut-wrenching drama that often keeps me from enjoying other historical dramas.

Watched a couple of good ones last night.

First up - A Man From Nowhere. This is a Korean action flick from 2010 (if memory serves). It's actually really good with a fair bit of emotional depth in an otherwise bloody movie. The knife choreography towards the end is some of the best I've seen in a good long while.

Second up - The Killer. This is a more recent movie based on a French graphic novel series. It stars Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton. I have found that the reception to this film is pretty polarized; many love it or hate it. I loved it. If you are expecting a film with an intricate plot and complicated characters, this is not the movie for you. If, however, you pick up on all the queues strewn throughout the movie and acknowledge the messaging being presented, it's pretty damned brilliant.

Thank you about to start a man from nowhere right now!

Ok, I am going to be a hero and save everyone 2 hours of precious life.

“The Painter” has a very good basic plot, but the characters, acting, dialogue, and especially the shoot outs and fight scenes are so bad it was ridiculous. I like Jon Voight, but he should have passed on this film.

Seriously, this movie is really bad.
