What are you watching & why? (splain)

Actually, it was mostly just boobs.

Tongue-in-cheek or not, following the success of the first season, HBO execs made a clear declaration that they fully intended to "sex up" the subsequent seasons, detailing how they would be doubling or more the amount of adult fare. I haven't seen beyond the first season but I've heard they delivered in that regard.

Yeah, I remember hearing something to that effect, and it certainly seemed like they turned it up a notch (or three) after S1.

In general, I found the series enjoyable enough, but when it comes to entertainment (particularly entertainment involving dragons and mythical worlds) my bar isn't always all that high.

Then again, I must have a 'bar' of some sort, because I've never been able to sit through a Marvel movie. 😂

Marvel films are like an over-large bag of Halloween candy made from corn syrup. They’re fun, but they always leave me feeling disgusted with myself.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)

I haven't given the newer Jurassic Trailer Park much thought. The series began to get stupid and I stopped watching it.

I thought I give it another try. Why not?

Yep, Stupid. Same old tired drama. Consisting of running away from GMO dinosaurs. Rich pricks trying to scape it for money.

You got your main actor. Who would be perfect for a flowers and coffee cups with a cute little saying on the side, salesman.

Then the scientists. Smug and Stupid. Touchy Feely hug a tree. With a minor sidekick that needs a punch in the face. A real piece of a poster boy for, 'Trust the Science'.

Rich guys. You can't take it with you. So lets gets some lizards domesticated. Even though, they all know it ends badly.

It's like I'm watching the first movie. But with added outakes.

I'm watching morality and society steadily decline! Heyooooo!

I can't seem to find anything worth watching these days. Seems like writing talent is drying up quick

Kind of winged it for movie night last night.

We started with Joe Kidd, which might be the only Clint Eastwood western I hadn't seen up to that point. It has Robert Duvall in it so I wasn't sure why it had escaped me. It was not the finest Eastwood western out there and though I like Duvall, his presence didn't improve upon anything. Despite being released in 1972, it reeks of the typical '60s Westerns DNA where not much attention was paid to the appropriate material culture of the period being presented.

It was a lot of fun though, despite feeling like a movie about a bunch of dudes cosplaying cowboys in the 1960s.

Followed that up with a movie I hadn't heard of. Mute, with Paul Rudd and Alexander Skarsgård. The premise has to do with a mute bartender from Amish roots clashing with gangsters in Berlin after his girlfriend goes missing. Feeling a bit like a piece of film noir, despite being in a futuristic setting, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was odd seeing Paul Rudd in an antagonist's role - he plays an asshole pretty well in his other works but to truly be an antagonist, almost villain, that was a new one. I though he did a great job, as did Skarsgård.
