What are you watching & why? (splain)

Last night, I decided to go back in time to rewatch John Adams on HBO (2008 Emmy winning mini series). I find myself experiencing both provocation and catharsis specially living through these past 17 years, while rewatching this series.

This thread delivers. I skimmed the last few pages for ideas and then a couple weeks ago we watched The Brutalist. We enjoyed it quite a bit despite the car chase never materializing.
This past weekend we saw Wild Bill with Jeff Bridges and enjoyed that as well. Next I'll try Duster...

I don't think I've ever used "melancholic" in a sentence. Now I'll have to look for an opening. Anybody can use "melancholy"...

☺️ 🍺

(Oh, and it's a national park, smartypants. Though I haven't watched it. 🤣 )

I never got into Dexter, but meant to. Is this just a continuation of the original series?
All the series are related. They ran 6 seasons or so in the original run. I'd recommend watching the first two, they were really good. After that, they got less interesting but still not too bad. Several years after the final episode they made another, then after another hiatus another. These later runs are quite good since they're not churning them out like series 3-6. I haven't started watching the latest series but will do soon. All that said, you could jump in and begin watching the latest series now and enjoy it. You won't have the context of someone who's watched the older stuff and you might not get certain references or understand some things, but it'll still be entertaining. Michael C Hall is an amazing actor and it's a testament to him and the show that demand warrants new seasons.

It's a sequel to a sequel to the original series, neither of which were meant to have sequels. The justification for how the plot was allowed to continue is a bit silly this time, but it's basically fan fiction anyway so who cares? They're just having fun with the characters. The original series is really good but I know watching a long series is pretty daunting.

You can definitely skip the prequel, it was pretty pointless and boring.

I watched Number 24 last night: an excellent, albeit somber movie. It tells the story of Gunnar Sønsteby, a Norwegian resistance fighter during WWII. He was an impressive man, the mental fortitude he possessed and the sacrifices he made for the sake of freedom are difficult to imagine.

I've enjoyed many of the films out of Norway and this one is no exception.
