What are you watching & why? (splain)

The Professionals- on Xumo play(free). Old British intelligence show. The first thing that struck me was the frenetic pace of running/chases. Most modern shows, looks like the lead runs like a sissy- this may not be true, but I have Seagal grating on my mind.

I remember reading an interview a few years back from a movie release/debut (I can’t recall the movie, or the actor);

They were talking about some of the action scenes, and the actor was talking about training for a particular scene, and said, ā€œReally, how often do you EVER run flat out, past high school or college?ā€.

That comment really stuck, because it’s true. Many of us might run, for cardio etc., but that’s running at a medium/moderate pace. Unless a person specifically sets out to do it regularly, he’s right; most people rarely ever sprint flat out, after high school or college.

The few (somewhat recent) actors I can recall, doing that in movies since that interview, are Tom Cruise in the Mission Impossible movies, and Zachary Quinto in Star Trek: Into Darkness.

Anyone else noticed that their attention span is shot? Social media has turned me into an autist... I say this in reference to being bored by most movies and shows now, whereas I used to be a massive film buff.

American Made (Tom Cruise) is on Prime and it was the last movie I saw that was worthy of a proper watch.

I recently finished up Reservation Dogs. It was a bit slow at the start, but once they established the characters it took off. Funny and endearing. Plus, there was a character with an absolutely perfect name and casting: William Knifeman

The Lowdown and Reservation Dogs were created by Sterlin Harjo and have similar vibes. The Lowdown is not slow though!

Alien: Earth on Hulu is pretty cool. It’s produced by Ridley Scott.

I finished watching all the episodes.

I've got to admit I wish the xenomorphs weren't in it. I feel like it's really taking away from what they were and the other aliens in it are cool enough to carry the show on their own.

Ballerina, of the John Wick world.

Ana de Armas. John Wick. ā€˜Nuff said.

I enjoyed the first half more than the latter, where it started to get a little too ridiculous (and I expect a fair bit of over-the-top in any JW franchise - that's kind of the point).

But yeah, my bar isn't exactly high if the trade-off is two hours of watching Ana de Armas. :)

As an aside, she sure seems like she really got the shit repeatedly kicked out of her in that movie. Very physical role, for sure.

Yeah, I was in no way complaining. 😁 Maybe she likes it rough? šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø ;)
