What are you watching & why? (splain)

I just want to know if you were cringing at some of the scenarios/choices made by law enforcement characters, sounds like you were. I guess most shows have small groups of cops go after dangerous suspects with no backup in order to create dramatic scenes.
I have a few answers...

Yes...I absolutely cringed at some of the actions and methodologies...wondering what were they thinking as well as pondering how did they go about planning.

That said, during my career I have been a member of several task forces. OCDETF, (Organized Crime, Drug Enforcement Task Force), Florida Joint Task Group, HIDTA, (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area), and JTTF, (Joint Terrorism Task Force). These were generally comprised of federal as well as state and local law enforcement. Generally well funded, well supervised with lots of oversight. Most ops were well planned, in advance if practical, and structured in regard to who was doing what and what the assignments entailed. (Same went for when I was on our SRT.)

However, I have also been involved in some solo, or two man operations, often on the fly, which, while the outcomes turned out well, could have quickly devolved into a major cluster in short order. Sometimes it was because of exigent, unseen or unknown factors, sometimes because of poor planning and foresight, and sometimes, especially when younger and full of piss and vinegar, falling victim to what was referred to at academies as "tombstone courage".

So, while I often sit and Monday morning quarterback most shows, (or events on the news), I have to remind myself that more than once I was fortunate to walk away from something that could have gone terribly wrong in a heartbeat.

If anyone has Amazon Prime, and has an interest in martial arts (especially karate; tinfoil hat timmy tinfoil hat timmy ), just learned that Prime now has an old documentary called ‘Strongest Karate’ (pretty sure this is the same documentary that was released in the US in 1976 under the title ‘Fighting Black Kings’).

It follows the training of various Kyokushin karate competitors from the US and Japan, leading up to the first ever World Open Kyokushin karate (bare knuckle full contact) tournament held in Japan in 1975, and includes footage of the tournament (including quite a few KOs. Kyokushin competition rules are no punches to the face/head, but kicks to the head are allowed).

Cool. Gonna check it out. Always had an interest in martial arts but wasn’t in a good area for it

Of the somewhat recent unconventional Christmas movies, I’m giving Fatman (starring Mel Gibson) a thumbs down. Wasn’t horrible. Just wasn’t really worth the time.

Also some unnecessary/dumb elements (in spoiler tags for anyone who doesn’t want spoilers).

The whole Santa needing to take up a military contract for financial reasons, could have been shelved. They could’ve just made the movie about the disgruntled kid and assassin.

In addition, if the US government/military was going to pay Chris Cringle for something, they’d be willing to pay BILLIONS for information, from the guy who KNOWS who’s been naughty or nice and remembers everything bad they’ve ever done. Not some dumb contract to have the elves build flight control chips.

Recent ones that I thought were entertaining enough to be worth the time:
- Red One. Santa gets kidnapped. The Rock and Captain America have to save him.
- Violent Night. Mercs take a family hostage. Badass Santa decides to fight them off.
