What are you watching & why? (splain)

I have to just ignore all the dumb gun stuff in movies and on TV or I can't watch anything. So many dumbass things for "effect" or just out of ignorance, like racking the slide multiple times, hammer cocking sounds for striker fired pistols, folding tanto blades being called a hunting knife, skymall stun guns knocking people out, "cup and plate" grip used by "special forces" badass, ballistic reports determining the exact handgun brand and model, looking at a bullet wound and knowing the round - "looks like a 38", etc. 🙄🙄🙄🙄

It bugs me because it's lazy and assumes your audience is ignorant.

Gotta tell myself, "It's just for fun, let it go.....let it go." Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and I have to shut it off. 😆😆😆

My favorite peeve;
We’re stalking this super dangerous, deadly criminal/alien/monster. Ah, we FINALLY caught sight up ahead. Lemme veeerrryyy carefully, and quietly chamber this round.

Wait. You were carrying that stupid thing without a round in the chamber the whole time, while stalking something you KNOW has killed a bunch of people? ***sigh*** lazy writers and their stupidity for trying to create dramatic tension.

It’s also one of the reasons I stopped watching The Walking Dead series; too much lazy writing.

Hey, let’s show how badass our protagonists are. In this episode, a bunch of zombies break in, and the good guys can make headshots on multiple zombies easily, while running.

But when it comes to shooting the new main bad guy, they all suddenly turn into Stormtroopers.

One episode, they show a couple of them ‘clearing zombies’ casually walking along, stabbing them in the head while carrying on a conversation, like two people strolling through a grocery store.

Couple episodes later, lazy writers go, “Hmmm… need some dramatic tension. What to do? What to do?”, Oh, same person who can casually walk up and stab zombies in the brain without even needing to focus on the task a few episodes ago, is suddenly wrestling with a zombie for 5 minutes. “Oh no! It’s alllmost about to bite me! Aaaaa!!!” 🙄

Every friggin' show and movie has a scene with some numbskull racking the slide on his pistol as they are about to engage in some nonsense, legal or otherwise.

I know there's a such thing as "Israeli carry", but c'mon. I've NEVER carried without one in the pipe. EVER.

Or the morons that have to check. Really? Maybe you'd be better off with a bat.

LOL. One of my favorites is entering the building where the evil villain is suspected to be - exiting the vehicle, crossing the parking lot, going through the door, heading up the stairs, and then chambering a round, because suddenly for whatever reason, the bad guy might be close. 🤣

British shows are consistently the worst. Probably because they assume (not incorrectly) that almost no one in the audience has a clue about how guns actually work so they can pretty much get away with depicting anything, dubbing in lots of"clicky" sounds every time someone so much as looks at a gun, keep their finger on the trigger at all times....it's painful to watch.

I actually know a few people who Israeli carry, despite me telling them why it’s not a good idea, AND sending them links to videos that showed some idiot getting shot while trying to chamber a round because they carried with an empty chamber.

After going to the range with people who I KNOW have owned guns for many years, I’m of the opinion that there’s a very high percentage of gun owners who have the “+6 Magic Talisman of Protection” mentality.

No, it’s not a magical item that protects you just from having it in your possession. It’s a tool, and a tool is only as useful as the person’s ability to use it.

When I first started carrying concealed, I thought it was a good idea to keep one chambered with the safety on. Then I started to run drills where I would draw and try to fire 3 times accurately. In my haste, 90% of the time I either forgot to flick the safety off or failed to flick it all the way and had to take extra, deliberate effort to take off the safety before firing. Honestly, it rattled me up to learn how easily I could get tripped up. After that I ditched the safety and carried ready to go.

I can't fathom carrying Israeli.

I never had an issue with cocked and locked, but on the whole, I'm happy with my Glocks. After 37 years with them, I guess I should be.

I think at least part of the issue was the safety being a diminutive little stamped-steel lever that was the same profile of the slide-lock. That made it great for a slim-profiled pistol to tuck in a waistband, but not great for quick and easy use. A 1911 wouldn't have the same issue.

As for staying on-topic, I've been watching Mad Men recently. More accurately, I've been trying to watch it since my HBO app keeps crashing and forcing me to delete, then re-install it multiple times a day. Good show, when it works.

Just finished watching "Save Me" on BritBox. A good but dark drama with a very good cast and performances. (Two seasons)

For the life of me, finding decent shows worth watching is harder than conducting a federal investigation.
