Westworld. Why? Because even if there's a wave of murderous robots running amok that guy changing the tire on his golf cart is gonna put the hubcap back on. I'm all about attention to detail.
Watching a Brit crime show..."This City is Ours" on AMC+. Digging it. Good cast, good acting, and if not groundbreaking, it's a good and fun ride.
Eight episodes in this first season.
Got a free week of AMC+ through our Apple TV subscription.
Watched the final(?) episode of ‘The Boys’ on Amazon Prime.
Ah, closure.
I’m entertained by these dystopian views of superheroes (I enjoyed Brightburn, too).
While I laud the attempted messaging (especially to the impressionable minds targeted by comics/superheroes), having seen lots of examples of humans in power, it’s hard to swallow the age old ideas of superheroes being selfless and altruistic.
As the saying goes, “Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely”.
I'm going to file away The Boys in the same folder as Heroes. I can't think of any reason to watch it again. What a disappointing season with pointless side quests of the week. Basically a Deus Ex Machina at the end to save the day.
Its always disappointing to see bad guys beg for for their life, especially when it makes no sense for them to do so.
After everything that Homelander did to make sure his public image was intact, he debases himself by offering the most emasculating things possible. It seems out of place for him to beg for his life in front of the world. If Butcher had spared his life, he would never have been able to live with it.
Most of the character arcs in the last few seasons were really pointless. It was a mistake to change the comic's take on the War on Terror and make it commentary on the current administration. Especially given how poor the dialogue was.

Never read the comic, so I don’t have any reference there.
As for the part in the spoiler While I get that the writers were deliberately trying to make it as jarring as possible, Homelander has been pretty near invulnerable since he was a child, and able to do whatever he pleased, on a whim (which, as the story arc showed, led to him becoming a sociopath with pretty much no consideration for most of humanity.
That said, the cracks in the facade began to show when he realized that his foes may have found vulnerabilities. The actor does a really good job over the seasons, of portraying the warped sociopath.
Suddenly losing those powers and becoming vulnerable, knowing exactly what Butcher intended to do, I wouldn’t put it past the realm of possibility.
In my life, I’ve been in a couple situations where I got to see the ‘tough guy’ facade crack, when they realized that something severe was imminent. The switch and change in personality and tone IS jarring. Given Blues’s career, I have no doubt he’s seen it, too.
After the first few episodes, I couldn't find any redeeming value to The Boys. Slogged through the first season, and bailed very early in the second. Made it further with Invincible, but I should have bailed sooner on that one as well. Everything seems to tip toward agitprop these days.

The hatred I feel towards myself for watching the entire show is not insignificant. Seth Rogan is executive producer for both of the shows you mentioned, which may explain why they turned out so stupid and repulsive.

The missus and I watched The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare over the course of a few days this week. It was her idea, I think she was just in it for the cast as she is not normally into war movies. I thought it was good in general - good pacing, interesting story based on real events I was previously unaware of, and plenty of action. Not a masterpiece by any stretch, but it was entertaining and did not waste too much time on unnecessary sub-plots. They used lots of knives in the fight scenes but I never got a good look at any of them - it would have been nice to see a smatchet in the mix, although idk if they were even available at the time of the events depicted.

He's not listed as an EP for Animal Farm, but that seems to have his finger prints all over it. After hearing about the story changes that were made, I'm going to stay far away.
You would think it would be really easy to stick with the Orwell's original story, but apparently no one seems to be able to do it.
Yeah, I was wondering how much he and those other guys were paid for that appearance because the show had an appallingly large budget, similar to game of thrones, with very little to show for it.
