What are you watching & why? (splain)

Currently on season 2 of Yellowstone. I'm enjoying the show so far, even though there's a lot of manufactured drama in the show. I'm sure they'll get deeper into the relationships between the characters, but so far, there's a lot of hate between a few that hasn't been explained yet.
It was really strong until about the end of season 3 and then it absolutely fell off a cliff. Focus on ridiculous subplots, characters making absurd decisions for storyline purposes and not based on any kind of logical motivation, etc.

We watched the new Thor movie the other night. I can say, with no small measure of certainty, that it is easily the dumbest movie in the entire MCU. It was unbelievably bad, such a tremendous waste - it makes you wonder how they could drop the ball so badly after its excellent predecessor.

It was big dumb fun and I enjoyed it for that. I thought the first two Thor movies were snoozers, liked Ragnarok, and this was watchable if not especially memorable.
Followed that up with watching the new Pinocchio (can you believe that the original Disney take is like 80 years old now?). Pretty standard for Disney's lineup of "live action" reskins - fun to see the story in a modern light but like the others it lacks the "soul" of the original, despite the efforts of Tom Hanks as Geppetto.

I've been REALLY enjoying the Rings of Power series and I've also been making my way through Peaky Blinders with a buddy, which has also been good so far.
Enjoying Rings of Power too. I liked Peaky Blinders but after two seasons it sort of all blended together and I stopped watching.

We watched the first season of Top Boy on Netflix. I found the first couple episodes hard to get into but by the second half of the season I was hooked. Reminded me a lot of The Wire. Apparently it’s a reboot/continuation of a British show which is also available so we’ll probably finish the second season and then go back and watch the original.

House of the dragon. Episode 5
:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Eh, it was ok. Not quite the "Red Wedding."

A little bit of "action" but mainly just more intrigue and another set up episode for hopefully more action & dragons to follow. Wondering what the Queen Consort has up her sleeve knowing now what she knows given that the King may not have much more time to live (if he has not already passed on).

Same applies to Episode 4 of The Rings of Power. Just another set up episode.

Galadriel is no longer "intriguing" but just a "pill" that's really hard to swallow. However, she'll be the spark that ignites the violence to follow. So, we'll just have to deal w/her insufferable arrogance some more and I wonder what it will take for her character to demonstrate some grace and humility.

So much went down. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. But that episode really shaped the paths of many characters. Also we got to see a mans face absolutely destroyed. I guess for game of thrones standards. Only 2 murders isn’t that much action.

A lot of "little things" happened but nothing major. A couple of head smashings -- one off and one on screen. Quite tame by GoT standards.

Don't want to spoil it either but the Queen definitely has something up her sleeve, given the secret revealed to her, her failure to reveal or act upon it and the advice she was given by her father before he left King's Landing.

The question is whether the Queen has time to act, given the King's poor health, and what role she has in mind for her informant to play in her scheme.

As I said, just a "set up" for more to follow.

^ spoiler, i.e, the fate of Rhaenyra Targaryen was already revealed very clearly by that sadistic Joffrey when he was courting Margaery in S3 of GoT giving her history lessons. As prequels go, I don't see how show runners can change that end result in any meaningful way.

Meh. If they feel like retconning, they'll retcon. Could be something as silly, "Well, this is what actually happened. That was just what everyone thought, happened".

Apparently so but, if HotD is true to the books and/or what was revealed in GoT, what happens to her is apparently at least 10 years in the future, which should carry us thru at least another season of HotD before it happens.

I've also read that Rhaenyra ages during the course of the show and that the older Rhaenyra will be played by another actress. So, the actress playing the current/younger Rhaenyra will not be the one to suffer the consequences to come.

Yup, there will be a turn over in some of those actors / actresses as they age in the series. I think that applies to both Rhaenyra and Alicent. Regarding R's fate, if you go back to the previous episode, there is that one scene of night in the slums where her fate is foreshadowed so I think that they will stick to the books and the script.
