What are you watching & why? (splain)

Just finished up The Hunt For Red October….because it’s October of course.

Great movie!

Can't count how many times I've watched it and it's always a "go to" selection if it's on one of my cable or steaming TV channels and there's nothing else that I care to watch.

So, I once again watched "Hannibal" (the movie) and just noticed that Hannibal is holding what looks like Spyderco Civilian or Matriarch in his hand before he asks Inspector Patxi (who he is about to hang by tossing him over the balcony railing: "Bowels in or bowels out?" He, of course, chose bowels out. LOL! 😂

It's one of the great movie lines and great movie moments! ;)

PS: Sorry but this was the best pic of the clip that I could find on the Net. If you can find one better, please post it.

Watched House of Gucci a few nights ago. Excellent film! Based on a true story. Starring Jeremy Irons, Al Pacino, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Lady Gaga, Selma Hayek, and directed by Ridley Scott.

Re-watching Kingdom of Heaven this morning while I work…the 3-hour director’s cut of course. I’ve seen it so many times I don’t really need to WATCH it to enjoy it. One of the nicest soundtracks ever, in my opinion, maybe tied with GATTACA and The Ilusionist.

Just watched the Godfather Trilogy again for the 1st time in awhile. If you have access to Pluto, the entire Trilogy is currently being streamed there.

It's still a great series and Godfather #1 is still the best of the 3. The opening line, the opening scene and the haunting score of the movie are all still brilliant!

"I believe in America . . . "

You can see and hear the opening of Godfather #1 again here:

And, if you're a film geek like I am, then you should appreicate the following analysis of this scene which, as the writer proposes, lays, the thematic groundwork for the entire Trilogy and makes a case for it being "The GMOAT" -- The Greatest Movie Of All Time!

See: An Analysis Of The Opening Scene of the Godfather - Part 1
-----------------------------------------

In the process of re-watching the Trilogy, I also learned for the 1st time that Godfather #3 was re-edited and re-released by Coppola a few years ago as: "The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone." Who knew? 🤷‍♂️

I noticed a few differences but, to me, it was basically the same movie but, if it's important to you, you can read the major differences between the old and new versions of the movie in as reviewed on RogerEbert.com here.

That reminds me a lot of our two-up motorcycle ride on the Moki Dugway in UT back in 1997. It was "interesting" to say the least on a fully laden ST1100. (We were on a three week, 6,000 mile motorcycling adventure.)

Just watched Episode 8 of 10 of the House of the Dragon (HotD) and it looks like it's headed for the predicted civil war to end the season presumably to be continued next season.

HotD has turned out to be a much more "cerebal" show that I thought it would be.

A lot going on but you have to pay attention to which I didn't do upon 1st viewing. So, I'll wait until the final episode airs and then binge watch all 10 epsiodes to see how they go together and to see what I missed the 1st time around.

--------------------------------

I also just watched the final and 8th Episode of the Rings of Power (RoP) and I have to say that I found RoP much more entertaining to watch than the HotD.

Not a lot of "action" in RoP either and a lot of the "plot" that I still don't understand that will also require additional viewing but I'll eventually figure it out after doing more research on the show as explained by others who understand the books and story line better.

The only thing I know for sure is that Galadriel will not be hooking up with Halbrand. LOL! ;)

--------------------------------

SPOILER: If you want to read understand happens in the last episode of RoP read THIS.

It explains what hapens quite well and is good reading AFTER you've seen the episode. At least it was for me.

--------------------------------

Here's also a pretty good synopsis of what happened in Episode 8 of HotD. Again better to read it after than before you see the episode.

Can’t wait to wrap up RoP this weekend! I’ve really enjoyed it so far. It’s been fun to have an almost completely fresh story.

Watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood a few days ago. I’ve never been a huge fan of Tarantino films despite having seen most of them. This may be my favorite so far. Less gratuitous cartoon violence. Really solid performances from DiCaprio and Pitt. Period piece set in the summer of 1969.

Just started gettin into this with my squeeze. Why? Because it’s seriously effed up and makes me feel better about my life. How have I missed this show for over 20 years?!!! On the plus side no commercials or having to wait to tune in next week 😁

I like Criminal Minds too, but it's a bit darker and messed up

Just watched Epsiode 9 of 10 of "House of the Dragon" today.

The game is on!

The entire "confilct" could have ended with a single word -- "Dracarys" -- but I guess that would have been too easy.

At least now, hopefully, there will be some real ACTION in the show but that probably won't start "in earnest" until Season 2 begins. :(

Watched the final episode of "Shetland" season 7 and I can't tell you how disappointing I found it. I always enjoyed the show for the characters and stories, despite some of the plot holes.

This season, which is the last of the main character "Jimmy Perez", they decided to go too far with some "woke" tropes that were highly offensive and completely off base, imho. (Speaking as someone who has worked in concert with LE in the UK in years past, as well as their people over here.) Won't comment further to avoid spoilers, but it really soured me on the series.

Had watched Dark Side of the Ring on Vice, and now they have Tales from the Territories. Don't really consider myself a wrestling fan (used to watch it when I was younger, and again when my son was into it for a bit), but I just find the whole thing fascinating. Some crazy people doing crazy stuff, inside and outside of the ring.

Also watching Dark Side of Comedy.
