What are you watching & why? (splain)

For a very short time in this month, the kid in me likes a good scare. Slasher flicks dont scare me, so it has to be the Exorcist type...that being said, this one got me. It was very unnerving...I had to watch re-runs of Good Eats to clear my mind

Working our way through The Serpent Queen. It’s a historical drama about Catherine de’ Medici. It’s pretty typical of a dozen other historical mini-series we’ve seen. Fun and easy to watch. The Spanish Princess was sort of the same idea, as was The White Queen, The Tudors, Reign, etc. My one gripe is that they seem to be filming on location at a French chateau of the period, but restricted to like five or six rooms or something. The interiors feel vaguely claustrophobic after several episodes.

Watched Infinite a few nights ago. Sci-fi film about reincarnated souls. Neat premise, but didn’t hold our attention. Lots of Matrix and Assassin's Creed vibes but didn’t really seem to work for some reason.

Watched Body of Lies last night. Middle East counter-terrorist/sting film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Strong, Russel Crowe, Simon McBurney, and Oscar Isaac. Intense and memorable. Everything Ridley Scott touches turns to gold in my opinion. It was well done.

Just watched "Lightyear" DVD. Liked it.

Not sure how it fits as a prequel to the "Toy Story" series but IMO it's an annimated space "action" movie suitable for "adult" viewing separate from that series. Meaning, someone with an IQ greater than that of a 5 yr old can enjoy it. Similar to "Up" and "Wall-e" n this respect.

PS: I'm currently watching "Bullet Train" on DVD. Didn't like the trailers and don't like the movie because it's a ridiculous -- tongue-in-cheek -- comedic farce.

The kind that George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino (especially Tarantino) like to make but apparently they didn't have anything to do with this POS. Not a fan.

Watching the new season of somebody feed Phil on Netflix

Entertaining travel food show me and the wife enjoy

He's a funny guy, in a very low key way. Just found it on one of my pirate steaming sites. Watching the Philly episode now.

Was in Philly on a baseball park tour and wanted to visit the Redding Mkt but it was closed. Gotta go back there to check it out.

we watched Pig last night with Nicholas Cage. No, he was not here with us, he was in the movie.

I saw that but, while it got some critical praise, I didn't like it. Same applies to most of his recent movies. Like his movies from the 1990's -2000's best.

Watched The Northman on Saturday and really like it. Great visuals and some really graphic violence.

The House of the Dragon season finale was great.
Loved the dragon chase sequence and can't wait for next season seeing as war is now on the horizon. Loved the "painted table" design even though it was more of a glowing table.
Also love the sword designs and how Valyrian steel has the classic damascus look.

Barbarians II is back on Netflix. Can't wait to watch it. The first season was great. Not to mention that I have a serious crush on Jeanne Goursad.

Agreed. Best episode of the season but just a set up for next season.

Reactions from the episode:

1) Glad I'm not a woman.
2) How was Vhagar so much bigger than Arrax?
3) The war is on . . . I want to see MORE dragons!

Just watched a Netflix original Polish limited series Hold Tight (like 6 episodes). It is dubbed in English. It takes place in the wealthy area of Warsaw and involves a couple families, crime, and other stuff. Very good. I hope they make another season of it. The plot took turns that an American series would not have.

1. Agreed.
2. Vhagar was one of the oldest dragons alive at this time. Arrax was given to Lucerys as an egg to bond with him. So basically just a pup.
3. We're going to see a lot more...

Just started binge watching old episodes of "Jeopardy" on the Pluto Channel.

I don't always know the answer to the Final Jeopardy clue but I knew this one (and I'm paraphrasing):

Category: Automotive History

"The Ford automobile named after a Native American
mythical animal that was the 1st car to be named the
Motor Trend Car of the Year."

The answer was "What was the Thunderbird?" which I yelled at the screen as each contestant failed
to answer correctly. They ended up with $400, $100 and $0 respectively.

Bunch of dummies! LOL! 🤣

It's interesting to look at the list of winners of the Motor Trend Car of the Year award. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_Trend_Car_of_the_Year

The magazine didn't actually name a car the winner of the "award" from 1949-1957; either naming a company or not naming a winner at all until naming the Thunderbird the winner in 1958.

This was the winner that year but earlier models looked (and still look) much better to me:

My main observation is that the "quality" of the picks over the years leaves a lot to be desired. The Mustang didn't make the list until 1974 and the Corvette didn't make the list until 1984 and they picked THIS -- the Corvair, the winner in 1960 . . .

. . . over the 1960 C1 Corvette!!!!

Really? F*cking brillant!!! LOL! ;)

I'm totally addicted to Andor right now. The storytelling, character development and attention to detail is a whole new level for Star Wars. Dark and gritty, sort of a spy story, about the early days of the rebellion.

Was a little skeptical going into House of the Dragon, but by the time I got to the end of the season was definitely enjoying it.

Rings of Power was a dumpster fire. They should issue an apology to Tolkein and everyone else who attempted to watch that swill.

Also watching Peripheral right now, mainly because I've been a big William Gibson fan for a long time. It has potential, and is just weird enough so far to keep me interested.

All Quiet On The Western Front was good. No plot, but that really helped hit home how chaotic the first World War was.

Watching Peripheral as well. Shows good promise. I like it so far.

House of the Dragon is OK, i guess. Character development felt rushed. I don't care for any of the characters; they could all be killed off and I wouldn't blink, unlike Game of Thrones.

Leafs game tonight.
