What are you watching & why? (splain)

I already watched it in the theater, but finally got to watch some highlights of Top Gun: Maverick in my home theater. The 4K disc with Dolby Atmos is incredible. I have a dual 18" subwoofer and it's rocking my entire room. Jets flying overhead is awesome!!!

Wednesday on Netflix. The latest iteration of the Addams Family featuring Wednesday Addams. Really surprisingly good.

On YouTube there are a million new videos on her playing cello (Paint it Black by the Stones) and her now famous dance that has made Jenna Ortega an international superstar. And the series just dropped 3 weeks ago.

Definitely a fun scene. And it was great to hear The Cramps again. I saw them live a number of times back in their heyday, and it was always a crazy time.

I agree I was expecting something bad, the wife and I really enjoyed the series !

Just binge watched all 8 episodes of Season 3 of "Jack Ryan" on Prime.

It's a spin on the Jack Ryan movie --"The Sum of All Fears" -- but is much more interesting and nuanced than the movie was. Just realized there's also a bit of the movie "Red October" thrown in to the mix too.

I think that it's WAY better than Season 2 was. It may be better than Season 1 too but I need to rewatch both seasons to confirm that.

In any event, I recommend it.

That's good to hear. I enjoyed season 1, but thought that season 2 got pretty ridiculous. I hope they are getting a little more grounded with it. Going to start watching it tonight.
We plan to see if it's worth watching the new season tonight since there's not much else on, and I need a break from sports.

I've always had problems with the show because my ability to suspend belief and not say "that's not the way these things are done" is difficult for me to do.

I like a dose of reality in the fantasy. It's different if the show is meant to be comical or satirical.

Agreed. There is almost nothing that is realistic in the series - an analyst who somehow just seamlessly drops into doing black ops?!? 🤣

But kind of like John Wick, I can suspend my critical thinking now and then and just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Did you watch the Terminal List?

I read the book...and it was a struggle. The movie was unwatchable.

The second book in the series I couldn't get through.

I wanted to like it...I just can't get past the ridiculous bullshit.

Have you seen the new series on Netflix called the “Recruit”? It’s about a CIA lawyer. Seems more dark humor with some seriousness to it.

Not familiar with it. I never dealt with any lawyers at the CIA.

(Though I have dealt with some of their "agricultural ministers" or some such at foreign consulates / embassies. LOL.)

Thoroughly enjoyed Ep-1 of 1923, a very strong start IMO. Apart from Harrison Ford and Hellen Mirren who need no further intro bringing major gravitas to this series, there are also some other very good next tier actors notably Jerome Flynn (Bronn in GoT) who plays one of the villains. So far very very good

There are still a lot of plot gaps that someone more critical would have issues with but, as long as it's entertaining and not too jarring, I don't have a problem suspending "disbelief" since IMO it's just a movie (or TV show) that's pure fiction whose main purpose IMO is to just be entertaining.

That's a low bar, I know, but that's all that I need from a movie or TV show and Season 3 of Jack Ryan does that for me.

1923 is on my "to watch" list but I keep forgetting to watch it. I've heard good things about it. So, I'll get around to it eventually.

It’s not a stretch for me to suspend disbelief to watch a show as I have to do it all the time in real life 😏
