What are your dirty little knife secrets

1. No matter what I buy, I EDC it for a few days and then log it on the Excel spreadsheet and go back to my SOG Twitch II.

2. I've come to dislike Sebenzas...for the sole reason that whenever anyone has asked for an "Under $100" folder recommendation , some idiot would chant: "Get a Sebenza! Get a Sebenza!"

3. I am strangely attracted to $10 slippies and lockers. Case Mini-Blackhorn, Case Small Caliber Lockback, even an Appalachian Trail bone handle from Lowes, etc.

4. Whenever I get the overwhelming urge to buy a particular] new knife, I search thru the web, hoping like Hell that it's been 'discontinued' by the manufacturer, so I can con myself into believing that the buy is gonna be an "investment".

5. I've seen lots of over-$100 knives that I'd love to have, just can't justify spending that much. ... Bummer!

6. I have a CS Urban Pal.

7. All my kitchen knives, save one "Old Hickory" are chinese junk...I use a flat file to "sharpen" them.

8. #7 is hearby amended: My best kitchen slicer is a $3.50 Victorinox red-handle paring knife.

I just ordered a C/S Rajah to EDC as I like and do EDC large folders - along with a few smaller 'sheeple friendly' blades.I just have always been a fan of larger blades [ since Scott Forbes starred in "Jim Bowie" ] and thats my shame - boo hoo:o

I bought a Puma White Hunter because it screamed safari, adventure, and Africa. And I've never used it because it's too pretty and I don't want to mess it up.

I prefer benchmade's G-10 to spyderco's

I prefer linerlocks to lockbacks

I actually liked my Paraframe when I first got it, Granted I did not know what sharp was then and I still thought Gerber was the Stuff, I did start hating it and Questioning why I bought it within a week though

Nothing wrong with that. I use one as my hiking knife. The spine serrations are a joke, and the edge from the factory was visbly dull. But after thinning it down about 75%, it makes a great little knife.

$40 was a bit much though. I think I paid $25 for mine.

I bought one for 38. It has 2-84 stamped on it. The snap is broken. It is damn dull. I don't know if I can sharpen it. I bought one for my buddy and he is very knife knowledgeable. He has been trying to sharpen it to no avail. He says those knives are only good for digging in the garden. I will try and sharpen it and see. I don't want to give up on this knife.

I will post a question about the new Ontario pilot knife.. in another thread.

Hi Fargus, the Rukus is a very nice knife (I have one myself) but how do you carry on an everyday basis? Just curious, since to me it's a bit too big for the pocket.
In all honesty, I don't know. I hear that all the time about the Rukus (too big to EDC). I just don't have any problems. I slide it into the front pocket of whatever pants/shorts I'm wearing at the time and it fits without a fuss. I am not a big guy (5'10", 165 lb.). I don't wear baggy clothes. Nothing special. It just always fits, except in a single pair of Ex Officio Amphis.

I've come to learn that even though I've owned everything from Chris Reeves to Striders, the lowly Swiss army knife is much more useful than a one blade "tactical", and have zero interest in owning one ever again. I Hate "collectors", who brag about the merits of a knife they have never used for more than letter opening, I prefer AUS8 and 440HC to the "supersteels" And greatly prefer tool steel to those. I've been buying and selling knives for the past 4 years, just to find the ones (folder, fixed edc. and large fixed) that fit perfect so I don't have to ever get anymore, and get away from this hobby. And I may have found them.

It carries just fine, you just need to get used to it if you're accustomed to a lighter or thinner knife. :)

GREAT THREAD!

-i do not like knives that are easily flickable.
-i have owned thousands of dollars of knives and i have never learned to sharpen a blade.
-i love slip-joints.
-i remember admiring frn spyderco knives in 1990. i could not afford one then. i just bought my first one a few days ago. yep, i like it.
-my first knife was a buck 110. i bought it for $7 new and sold it later in my life for $70. i just ordered a new custom one from buck... $150.
-i play with my knives way too much.
-some of my knives are so expensive that when i need a new lcd tv, i sell a knife.
-i have no safe or special area that i keep my knives. they are stashed here and there.

Great thread, it's gratifying to see that so many people that choose their favorite knives not based on brands or steels. This bears out the significant influence of individual personal preference over choices and allows a greater diversity of tastes in the forums that I previously did not imagine possible.

This somehow in a way makes us all more human. A person who blindly chases the latest and greatest in steel is, I think, more appropriately a student of metallurgy rather than a connoisseur of knives.

my favorate knives are Strider, Reeve , busse, Crusader Forgue, but all i carry for my 4 deployments is a Timberline Spec War i cant even bring my self to carry another knife its so bad i just got a replacement for my badly beaten knife

I've been saying that, too. And it's always followed by that one good line from Godfather III:

Senator Corleone said:
Every time I try to leave, they pull me back in

I have a bunch of tacticals, but dont' tell anyone at times I still like to carry a lowly stockman slip-joint.

I am truly beleive that my Timberline Workhorse was made by some custom maker and should cost HUNDREDS of dollars. I swear it actually a Strider.

I once put change in the same pocket as a $500 William Henry and scratched the hell out of it.
I have no idea how many knives I have, last time I counted it was over 500, that was a couple of years ago.

i like liner locks much better than frame locks

i dont like titanium. or any metal scales. or stag. or wood. or frn. or even micarta. why cant every knife have the option of g10 or cf?

i dont like damascus

i dont like ao

i dont like autos

i dont like balisongs

i dont like buck 110s

i dont like slipjoints

i dont like saks

i dont like multis

knives without pocket clips confuse me

i doubt that ill ever buy a production knife for more than 200. including semi custom. id take one for free though

i think any survival knife less than 7in long and costing more than $60 is just for show
