What BIG folder do you really like?

One of the knives in my EDC rotation is the Swamp Rat 'rat trap' folder. Now this is a big knife, about the size of the large Manix. However, it has a very slim profile and seems to disappear when clipped to my pocket. Even though it is large it carries like a smaller blade.
The rat trap is on the bottom in the picture. The others are a Strider SNG and a Microtech Amphibian (auto).

The only big stuff I carry is a Strider SMF and sometimes a SERE2K . I have a Strider AR , but it only gets bush type carry .

Madd Maxx 5.5" and the 7" also the Aftermath. I am also becoming partial to the ZT 0200 which comes in a hair over 4".

Let's see, big folders I have direct experience with, hmmm...

Well, I carried CS's extra lg. Voyagers, the clip point, the original Gunsite, the Vacquero and they were all in the 5" blade range.
They got replaced by the REKAT Sifu which was also a great knife. It had the dubious distinction from most of my friends as the most "anti-social" looking knife ever.:) When REKAT went belly-up, the Carnivours and the Sifu went into the back and bottom of the safe. Someday I'll dig them out and may even put them back to work... who knows?

Then there's the outstanding Madd Maxx. This folder is a real standout in the quality dept. I'm thinking about trying to mount the clip for tip-up carry since I've gotten so used to that mode of carry.

Then along came the Skirmish and soon after the Rukus showed up and now it rides in the front pocket a lot nowadays.

In between all of these very large folders are the other folders that fall in the 3 3/4"-4" blade range. Including the Military, Manix, Chinook, 710, 806D2, Caracara, the SS Endura and so on.
Now, many of the folders I carry aside from the Rukus can range from 3" to 3 1/2" in blade length. I've decided this because there are just so freakin' many great folders out there these days in the 3-3 1/2" blade range, it would be stoopid to limit myself to a set minimum blade length. Man! So many! Like the Bump, the SpecBump, Mccusta's wonderful lineup, Spyderco and Benchmade and Kershaws! WOOHOO!
It's probably a good thing I don't have access to large sums of money.:D

I'm not usually that keen on larger folders (over 4") but I like the Military, it's a lot of blade in a fairly slim profile. I'd like it more with a different locking mechanism (ball bearing, compression, framelock) but still a nice knife.

Great responses...thanks to all.

Many of the knives mentioned I have: Military (great pic of the BG-42 version, "huugh"), Manix, BM 710, etc. I consider the Military and Manix a "handful" but not what I call large. As mentioned in the original post, I was referring to knives over 4".

I also had the SOG Elite 2 with the 5" blade but sold it. A great "man killer" blade design but not very practical for much else in my opinion. They have a new drop point I may look at. The large CS Voyager as not comfortable at all. The bug CS Gunsite tanto is better but not on my "favorites" list.

As mentioned, I have a Ruckus due to arrive Monday. I have great hopes for carry comfort with that knife. It's a beautiful knife and I love the blade design (and S30V, very nice). I'm also having a sheath made for it similar to the one I had made for my Manix.

The ones that I expected to show up the most were mentioned somewhat. The Lone Wolf Harsey T3, Cuda Maxx, and the Skirmish.

Now I can get more specific and ask how those particular knives are for EDC comfort. Does anyone that has really spent time carrying those knives find them too uncomfortable for EDC? Some knives can be big but still comfortable in the pocket, at least for short periods. Others are are too "pointy" or clip placement makes them uncomfortable.

What I'm expecting from the Ruckus is what I would like from any other large folder I purchase. That it can be carried for 2-3 days without becoming an annoyance. At that point I can then carry it in it's sheath. Back and forth (you get the idea). I just don't want to purchase any more "big boys" that I find so uncomfortable they they can ONLY be carried in a sheath or not at all.

I'm getting older (but still a kid at heart) and I've decided I'm tired of just looking at my knives. Some were just purchased for there beauty and won't be used but most I want to put some "mileage" on them. Knives are "functional artwork" and they are FUN to used. Yardwork, boxes, letters, camping chores, you all know what I mean. Sometime I even prepare a whole dinner with one of my folders or fixed blades. Try it, it's fun!! I've already sold about 50 knives and given away about 20 of them to friends (no worries, there's plenty more). Plus, I continue to buy a few more but I getting more particular. Hmmm...guess I've been rambling. Oh, well.

Of the three (Lone Wolf Harsey T3, Cuda Maxx, Skirmish) how would some owners rate the CCL (carry comfort level)? I've never really considered buying a Camillus Maxx but it is starting to look like very cool. I'm guessing it would look nice riding in one of those custom made "friction" sheaths also (like the one shown above).

Side note: compliments on your pics also, Soa. Thank you.

Regards and many thanks,
Gary

I usually take my rukus out of my hip pocket if i'm sitting for awhile. It's only annoying when I forget to grab it before leaving my desk.

I like my Spyderco Manix and my Chris Reeve large Sebenza Classic MM size. Large enough for me but not too overwhelming when folded to attract unwanted attention (I carry them in a belt sheath).

I had a pretty good collection of large(r) folders. I sold/traded them all because I lost interest in folders.

I also had a Spec Bump (not pictured).

Of these, my favorites were the Sebenza, SMF, and John W. Smith. I do miss them sometimes, but I am happier with the knives (full-tang Doziers) I bought with the money. The other knives I don't really miss, though I was fond of the Military and Manix.

I think the SMF is one of the best folders in the world. I highly recommend it. The Sebenza and JWS had more class and better fit and finish, but the SMF had a much more functional design. Very comfortable and secure, moreso than any other folder I have used. Very smartly designed. The Sebenza has a fit and finish that is every bit as good as everyone says. It makes other production knives (from the Buck/Kershaw/Benchmade/Spyderco class up to the William Henry/Strider/Protech class) look poorly executed in comparison. The JWS framelock is so smooth and so well made it is even a good step above the Sebenza. And it has such a sexy design. I recommend the Sebenza, SMF, and any of Smith's tacticals VERY highly if you are not allowed to carry a fixed blade.

Sometime down the line, I *might* start collecting Sebenzas and Strider folders. Or Tom Mayo TNTs. I don't see a real point is buying or using folders anymore, but these knives are so good that sometimes I just want to fiddle with them.. ya know?

I am sitting in my federal government office in Washington, DC, trying to imagine what would happen if one of the hoplophobes in my office who panic at the strictly legal 2.5" pocketknives spotted me with my CUDA MAXX 5.5" or my MADD MAXX 7". :D :D :D :D

I work with a gal that borrowed her boy friends car once. She found a small folder whilest searching the glove box (snoopy!) and proceeded to toss it out the window as she considered any knife illegal!

Im glad I didnt show her the big Buck Strider.

I have carried the Maxx's 5.5" and 7" quite a bit and have had no comfort issues while carrying them. They fit nicely in my pocket, they don't print and the clip allows for a secure carry with easy draw.

The ZT is a thick folder, carries fairly comfortably but is noticed after extended carry time.

I am the sole 'computer guy' for an office of 30 and a field staff of +/- 20, I recognize that I probably get away with a lot more than a normal person. For instance, my hair is blue (an accident I swear) and I have a septum piercing (think bullring). The rukus does gather some comments though.

I've let my boss borrow my car before... The one with the Ka-bar #1211 tucked between the seats sticking up next to the gearshift/ebrake. She didn't seem to mind :)

A coworker who was coincedentally fired an hour ago saw me using my knife a while ago and her comment was "my dad told me only mexicans carry knives." Far too many people who don't understand how important a knife is. I tell them the truth, that it's my most important tool!

I just ordered and received a Cold Steel Ti-Lite VI. Has six inch razor sharp stiletto blade and seven inch handle so the darned thing is 13 inches long when open. Blade is 5/32" at the back. Makes your blood run cold just to look at it opened up and would make a good noggin knocker closed. Has strong hinge and heavy duty liner lock. The hinge can be loosened so it will "flip" open but that's illegal in my state. So far I'm super pleased.
