What BIG folder do you really like?

Hey 44Magpie, I sure like looks of your RAT trap folder. The handle looks very comfortable.

Redleg06, your Gerber Parabellum is an oldie but a goodie. I think it was about the same time the Parabellum came out that Bench Mark Knives came out with their fixed blade Ninja. I think it's the case that both the Parabellum and the Ninja were Blackie Collins designs. I had the Ninja but it was stolen from my car.

CS Recon 1 is a big beefy 4 incher. How can anyone say it dont start there?

I picked up a Sifu by REKAT. Does anyone have information about these knives? It is big and the blade is awesome!

I suspect that all of the REKAT threads are archived by now, since the REKAT forum and the company went under. THe Rolling Lock was an exceptionally smooth and strong lock on the Carnivore and Carnivore Jr., but it seemed to develope problems when it was applied to the 4.5" Sifu. REKAT began to get complaint after complaint about the knife and the failure of th elock. i had one and the lock seemed good, but I never really trusted it after reading of all of the problems, so I traded mine for a knife that I really wanted. In any case, I also had A CUDA MAXX 5.5" and a MADD MAXX 7" on order at the time. I have since received it. I prefer the 5.5" version.

I just bought an Emerson CQC-11 NIB off Ebay. According to the listing, it has a 4.1 inch blade. I'm still waiting for it to arrive.
Right now I EDC an Emerson H&K CQC-10 with a 3.7 inch blade and it is solid. This has been my largest folder to date, so I'm looking forward to the CQC-11.

A week ago I picked up a Zero Tolerance (ZT).It has assisted opening and a wide blade with camo stripes. One side of handel is black and the other is OD
green and it has a frame lock. It feels fantastic in my hand.
Can anyone tell me if the edge is a regular V or a chisel ground like Emerson?
It seems like one edge is a little thicker than the other.

The ZT 301 looks v-grind.

I've got the old vaquero grande with the 6 inch blade. When they came with a belt sheath and not a pocket clip. I carry it occationally on my belt. Not my edc but when I have the urge or im going somewhere questionable. I take it with me.

It's a good one. Fit and finish are superb. Lock up is tight. :)

I can understand why you're uncomfortable with the idea of a Ti Lite VI -- scary looking thing with minimal utilitarian value -- but I like mine.

Check out the Vaquero Grande -- fully serrated 6" recurved blade, and the Zytel handle is much more comfortable than the ones on the Voyagers. Awesome knife that'll cut through damn near anything and can chop through thin branches. Very few other folders can be used to slice up thick sandwiches, bagels, or roasts.

For the Ti Lite, it's exactly what you said: "scary looking with mimimal utilitarian value". I surely wasn't being personal. I think it's a very fine looking knife.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone really say much about the Vaquero before on this forum but I haven't been around that long. I do, however like the looks of the small Vaquero. Also, to be honest, I was asking opinions on higher quality large knives, although I have the large CS Gunsite tanto and like it very much.

And the big Skirmish is already on the list (thank you), along with the Lone Wolf Harsey 3. Beautiful yet very tough knives.

I've had a Ruckus now for about a week. It's quickly becoming one of my favorites. I simply love the blade shape and the always smooth BM Axis action and lockup. Handle is also comforable for my grip. I have a custom "friction" style sheath on order for it that should be arriving any day now. I'll probably order one for all the "expensive" large knives to provide myself with different carrying options. I've enjoyed the one I have for my Manix. Takes me back to the "old days" when I used to carry a Buck 110 in its black leather sheath with the snap flap.

Still waiting on the Camillus CUDA Maxx 5.5. They say it's in the mail.

Great thread. Lot's of useful info.

Regards

Cold Steel's made in Japan production folders with Zytel grips and mid-grade stainless blades are despised by many here at bladeforums -- however, the fact remains that for the price (on average, half the price of a Spyderco) the Vaqueros and Voyagers are excellent work knives that will do what you want 'em to do, yet aren't so expensive or fancy that you'll cry if you ruin it.

The Vaquero Grande is my favorite folder, and I've owned several. If you wear one out, keep it as a beater and buy a brand new one for under a hundred bucks.

Lots of folks here use CS folders as beaters -- even if they won't admit carrying anything "inferior" to a Sebenza. :D

I just picked up my CQC-11 this morning, along with a Mini Commander. This is the largest folder I've owned to date. This is a solid knife.
From top to bottom: CQC-11, CQC-10, Mini Commander

This is my favorite folding knife yet. Flips open easily, but the huge spydie-type hols makes it extremely easy to open with gloves on anyhow. The blade is interestingly-shaped but still very practical. The frame lock is strong and tight. The ergonomics are great, and for its size, it carries very easily. On the whole, just a fantastic design.

I love the skirmish. One of my favorite knives. A lot of people seem to not give it a chance beause of the blade shape. From all the knives i owned ive found its blade to be the most useful. Its more difficult to sharpen but it sure cuts well. I like recurves though since my all time fav is my 710. Currently i own a mini skirmish which is my gent folder. I find it fits my hand perfectly and just love the weight and feel of the entire thing. I havent heard to many people be dissapointed with the skirmish. In fact i own two just in case they every get d/c=)
