What BIG folder do you really like?

My Gerber Parabellum.

Ruckus came in yesterday. More then a handful but I'm falling in love with it already. I really like the blade shape. Sharpening it to 30 degrees is taking a long time. After 4 sessions that filled the rods of my Shapemaker, I'm just now starting to feel a little bit of the new edge. Will take at least another 4 sessions. When finished, this knife will be one awesome cutter.

Months back I found that my Manix was too big for me to carry long term so I had a sheath made for it that I really like. I had the tilting added, which helps with the drawing.

Since I know my relationship with the Ruckus will only grow (lol, make it sound like person), I'm also having a sheath made for it.

This thread has helped me to keep the "Lone Wolf Harsey 3" on my "large folders to buy list". What shocked me a little is the widespread appeal for the Camillus Cuda Maxx. I never really given this knife much thought but now I will. I've added it to the "to buy list" and will continue to learn more about it. The more I look at it the more I like it. No one, so far, has said anything negative about this knife so it must be a winner.

Thanks to all. We can keep the thread going if people want to. I'm enjoying it and learning a lot.

Regards,
Gary

Sold off all my big folders. They were just too ... big.

Now carry a SS Harpy in my back left pocket. (If I want to spread peanut butter, I'll do it before leaving the house.)

The Rukus is one awesome knife BP. You'll only grow to like it more and more! I've carried mine off and on since the beginning of summer, and it was mostly on, and have it right now. I've "customized" mine a little, just to make it ever so slightly different than all the others, and am getting ready to order some ivory micarta grips for it. The changes are mostly cosmetic although my Dremel moto-tool got used a little.

Another big carry is the Protech Brend Auto I, at 4.5" of blade. Am thinking seriously about this one!:D

Did yours arrive dull? Mine was crazy sharp, and comes back quick on my hard ark.

Yes, it has a "saw like" tecture or the sharpened angle and was as dull as a butter knife. I was very surprised. Maybe they missed a step or two on this knife.

Hmm, s30v can chip so I hope that's not what you're referring to as sawlike. That's a real shocker, I've heard of some benchmades arriving less than scary-sharp, but not one arriving dull. How is 30 working out with the thin blade? Is that 30 inclusive?

The thing about the Maxx is that there are very few pictures of it that do the knife justice. They are considerably more impressive in real life than they are in a picture. The blade has a cool finish to it that seems to be pretty much invisible in pictures and the anodized finish, especially after cleaning with windex, is really bright. Some Maxxes I've seen in pictures seem to have a more dull grey finish, so I don't know if they changed the production a little over time.

Yes, 30 total (15 each side). I don't know how it will work out yet because I'm still sharpening it. I've got a bad thumb from an old skiing accident so I can't grip anything tight for too long at one time. Give me a couple more days and I'll let you know. I'll also do some cutting with it and re-sharpening and see how that works out.

I don't think it was chipped. It seemed to be a preliminary bevel that they never finished off. I don't know for sure. If any trouble, I'll contact Benchmade. Thanks for the concern

I loved my Aftermath but it was kind of hard to edc , :D

I EDC mine. It's been in my pocket every day for however many years they've been available now.

The Aftermath is slimmer and lighter than a lot of other knives that people EDC. I don't notice mine.

Well, I'm trying to find a Camillus Cuda Maxx. I've been told by a dealer that Camillus workers have been on strike for months and that the company may be going into bankruptcy. Many dealer are out of ALL Camillus Cuda models.

Hey, Diversionmary, how long did the relationship with the girlfriend who tossed your knife out the window last?

Unfortunately, your dealer is correct. But there is hope as the knife was originally designed by Darrel Ralph and he makes them on a more expensive custom basis. You can look him up and try to see what sort of a deal he can make you.

Yep, it's chipping (BM Ruskus in S30V). I feel them when I run my finger nail along the edge. The dealer I purchased it from agreed to send a new one. I won't what went wrong? Is it the tempering?

You are right Bob, I hardly notice my Aftermath or Maxx. I really love large knives and wish I had more. Of all my large knives, the only one I notice is my AR when wearing tightish trousers, which I rarely do. I find that large knives fit me and I would rather use a large knife for a small job than try to use a small knife to do a large job. IMHO YMMV;)
Here is a shot of my over 4" EDC knives.

The Maxx is a nice knife, and given all the discussion here it would be a good oportunity to see other manufacturers produce more big folders like that. Some of the big folders out there are rather ugly looking and lack the sleek lines of the Maxx. I would like to see Spyderco come out with a big bladed knife with similar lines to the endura or military, with say a 5 to 6 inch blade.

Thank you for the link and all very interesting.

However, I feel that a knife retails for $250 (the Ruckus), has top grade blade steel (S30V), and made by one of the most respected cutlery companies in the world shouldn't require that much work. And especially shouldn't have "nicks" in the edge, even after sharpening. I feel this knife should have ever gotten out of the door. If new one I get from the dealer is the same, I will either get a promise from Benchade that they will replace the blade and sharpen it properly or I'll get a refund. I've never had any problems with their 154CM knives and S30V is supposed to be a step or two up the "quality" scale.

Others may disagree but for that kind of money for a knife, I expect a quality product right out of the box. I don't think that's asking for too much.
